Persistent Stuttering and FPS Drops in LoL and Valorant - Intel Arc B580 (Windows 11 Pro)

Hello Intel Support Team,

I have been using the İntel arc B580 since I purchased it, but I have been experiencing persistent performance issues in e-sports titles like Valorant and Leauge of Legends.

Despite having a strong system, I encounter frequent micro-stutters and sudden FPS drops during gameplay. These issues have been present across all driver versions I have used, including the latest 101.8531

My System Specs:

Gpu: Intel Arc B580 (12GB VRAM)

Cpu: AMD Ryzen 5 5600

OS: Windows 11 Pro (23H2/24H2)

Re-Size Bar: Enabled

Driver Version: 101.8531 Beta

The Issue: While the average FPS is high, the "1% Low" FPS is very unstable. Every time an ability is cast or a team fight starts in LoL or Valorant, the game stutters for a split second. This makes competitive play very difficult. I have already tried disabling/enabling HAGS and Game Mode in Windows 11 Pro, but the problem persists.

Since the B580 is a new architecture, I believe there is a specific optimization issue with DX11/DX9 titles.

I want this issue to be fixed in the upcoming driver release.

Thank you for your hard work on the frequent updates.

Hi erenulaş,
Thank you for posting in our Community. It really helps me understand what you’re experiencing. I do want to note that we handle one issue and one game per support thread to ensure we can investigate thoroughly. With that in mind, could you let me know which game you would like to focus on first, League of Legends or Valorant?

To help me narrow down the cause, I have a few questions for you:

  1. Are the stutters and FPS drops consistent across all maps or matches, or do they appear only during certain scenarios, like team fights or ability casts?

  2. Have you tried running the games in borderless or windowed mode instead of fullscreen, and did it have any effect?

  3. Could you share the in-game graphics settings and resolution you are using for each game?

  4. Have you tested whether this behavior occurs when the CPU or GPU is under minimal load, such as running only the game without background applications?

  5. Are there any monitoring tools or overlays active (Discord, MSI Afterburner, or similar) while playing?

  6. If you've already taken any steps to resolve this issue before reaching out, please share those details with me so I can avoid repeating any unnecessary actions.

I'd like to delve deeper and verify specifics like the graphics models, precise driver versions, and any system errors. Utilizing the Intel SSU tool will enable me to collect detailed information about your system setup, which could aid in identifying the underlying cause of this issue. Additionally, could you please provide CapFrameX data for this game? This will allow me to analyze performance metrics in more detail and identify any potential issues. Ideally, please share a CapFrameX file that includes at least 2-5 minutes of gameplay

Once I have this info, I can dig deeper and work toward a solution.

Have a nice day!

Hi Mod! Good day!

I have been experiencing the same exact problem the OP is mentioning.

To answer your questions:

  1. Are the stutters and FPS drops consistent across all maps or matches, or do they appear only during certain scenarios, like team fights or ability casts? - Yes, it is consistent across all maps, even in practice range where no ability is used and only gunfights.

  2. Have you tried running the games in borderless or windowed mode instead of fullscreen, and did it have any effect? - Yes I have tried running it in borderless/window mode, just the same micro stutters.

  3. Could you share the in-game graphics settings and resolution you are using for each game? - I have tried max/med/low but the micro stutters are still in there, both valorant and league of legends.

  4. Have you tested whether this behavior occurs when the CPU or GPU is under minimal load, such as running only the game without background applications? - I have tested both, with running background apps and without it.

  5. Are there any monitoring tools or overlays active (Discord, MSI Afterburner, or similar) while playing? - Tried also both, with and without discord overlay. Still the same

  6. If you've already taken any steps to resolve this issue before reaching out, please share those details with me so I can avoid repeating any unnecessary actions. - Tried enabling ReBar, XMP, disabling/enabling HAGS. I also BELIEVE there is a specific optimization issue with DX11/DX9 titles.

In my previous GPU, i didn't experience any of these issues (RTX 3060 & GTX 1660 Super). They are stable 300+ fps and no micro stutters in game.

Hi Von M.,

Thank you for your guidance. As requested, I have decided to focus on Valorant first to investigate the stuttering issues. Here are the details regarding my experience:

Scenario: The stutters and FPS drops are most consistent during team fights and especially when multiple agent abilities are cast at the same time.

Mode: I am currently running the game in Fullscreen mode.

Settings: I am playing at 1080p resolution with "High" graphics settings.

Background Apps: For this specific test and recording, I closed Discord and all other non-essential background applications to see if it made a difference, but the stuttering still occurs.

Monitoring: Only the necessary Intel software was active during the capture.

I have attached the Intel SSU report and the CapFrameX data. Please note that I have compressed the CapFrameX .json file into a .zip archive as the forum does not support direct .json uploads.

I look forward to your analysis and suggestions for a solution.

Best regards.

@VonM_Intel

Additional Note:

I would also like to mention that I am experiencing similar, though less frequent, stuttering issues in Counter-Strike 2 (cs2) as well. It seems like the issue isn't isolated to just one game, but rather a pattern in competitive shooters. I hope the provided data from Valorant helps in identifying the root cause for both.

Hello erenulaş,

Thank you for the detailed information and for providing the SSU report along with the CapFrameX data. I appreciate the effort you took to perform the testing and capture the data while focusing specifically on Valorant. The details you shared about the scenario (team fights and multiple abilities being cast), resolution, graphics settings, and background applications are very helpful for our investigation. For now, I will focus my analysis on the behavior observed in Valorant so I can properly isolate and investigate the stuttering and FPS drops you are experiencing. Regarding the similar, though less frequent, stuttering you mentioned in Counter-Strike 2, I recommend creating a separate community thread for that game. Having a dedicated discussion per title helps us keep the investigation organized and allows us to analyze each game scenario more effectively.\

Additionally, we have seen reports of similar behavior in Valorant and other competitive shooter titles from a few users. Because of this, I will need to conduct additional research and review the data you provided more closely. Once I have gathered more information or confirmed findings, I will post an update directly in this thread.

@Flickeez ,

I empathize with your situation and the issue you are facing. However, I kindly request that you create a new thread for your case. This will allow us to focus on your specific problem and provide you with better assistance.

Thank you again.

Hi Von M.

Thank you for the update. I'm glad to hear that the data is helpful for the investigation. I will wait for your findings regarding the Valorant stutters. I will also consider opening a separate thread for CS2 as you suggested.

Best regards.

Hello erenulaş,

Thank you for your patience. During simulation, I observed that the micro stuttering occurs on both Intel and third-party GPUs under the same conditions. Based on these findings, the behavior appears to be related to the game itself rather than the processor or graphics hardware. I conducted three sample tests on B580 and RTX 4060, and I noticed that both GPUs show a 1% stuttering during gameplay. And also, kindly see the attached average fps for both GPUs.

With this information, I recommend reaching out to the game developer or the game’s support team for further assistance, as they would be in the best position to investigate and address this behavior within the game. In the meantime, I will close this inquiry now. If you need further assistance, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.
