Persistent VRR and V-Sync Issues on i7-14700HX / RTX 4060 Laptop (Screen Tearing in Most Games)

i'm using a laptop with an i7-14700HX and RTX 4060. i'm having issues with VRR and V-Sync. i've enabled VRR both from the intel graphics software and from the windows 11 settings. VRR is technically working, but there's still screen tearing and it doesn’t function efficiently. because of that, i’m forced to turn on V-Sync, which causes input delay. also, in most games, V-Sync doesn’t work properly either. when i enable V-Sync in many games, it feels like VRR gets disabled entirely. i also downloaded the intel graphics command center beta and enabled the smart V-Sync setting, but that doesn’t work efficiently either — i keep getting tearing. i'm using the latest drivers. i've tried all the OEM drivers provided by HP, both old and new versions, but none of them fixed the problem.

I couldn't make sense of the test you did. You used a different CPU and GPU. It's only natural that you're not experiencing the issue I mentioned.

Yes, I contacted HP, and they only offered basic solutions like resetting the computer — methods I had already tried multiple times. But I had already gone further than that, even testing different versions of Windows beforehand. The HP authorized service provided superficial, simple fixes, and as you can guess, they didn’t solve the problem. What I expect from you is not more basic suggestions — I’ve already tried those. What I need is a method to force V-Sync to run at the driver level on my device, and unfortunately, you’re unable to provide that. It’s disappointing that Intel hasn’t added an option to force V-Sync through the Intel Graphics Command Center at the driver level.

Hello Aymuhteşemimm,

I'm joining this discussion to provide some clarity. After conducting thorough testing and investigation, we were unable to replicate the issue you're experiencing. Additionally, I'd like to inform you that Intel currently does not offer a method to enforce V-Sync globally at the driver level through the Intel Graphics Command Center. V-Sync remains application-controlled, and there are no supported overrides in the driver interface.

For mitigating screen tearing, we recommend the following options:

  • Enable V-Sync directly within the game settings, if available.
  • Use borderless windowed mode, which often mimics V-Sync behavior in modern Windows environments.
  • Consider using frame rate capping tools like RTSS to simulate the effect.

We hope Intel will introduce a global toggle in future driver updates, reflecting the feedback you've shared and aligning with industry standards.

Please note: These alternative steps involve third-party tools or manual configuration and fall outside the scope of Intel’s official support. Customers proceed with these steps at their own risk. For game-specific issues, contacting the game developer or publisher support for best practices is also recommended.

I will be closing this inquiry now. If you need further assistance, please submit a new question, as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Additionally, I apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.

Best regards,
