Random black screens eventually leading to loss of connection to PC

My PC specifications:

  • CPU: i9 13900K

  • GPU: ASUS RTX 4070 Super (12Gb)

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B760 DS3H

  • RAM: 32 Gb DDR5

  • Storage: KINGSTON SKC3000D2048G

  • Power supply: GX 3 850 GOLD

I've been having issues were the computer after 10-20 minuets of being turned on will back screen (on a few occasions, rarely generates a green/yellow/white flashing screen, eventually becoming a black screen).

During the black screen, the PC will remain on but become inactive (no signal). After a small amount of time, the screen will say its lost connection via display port cable to the computer which can only be fixed by turning the PC off and on again.

The black screen may sometimes reset the PC and turn back on by itself.

The instances of the black screen occurring is during moments of both high load (loading games or having multiple windows open) and when nothing was running. Even writing this it has occurred twice... 😠

Once the black screen occurs, (most) audio is lost and cut completely, although there was an instance where I was on a Discord call and I was still able to talk and hear my friends over the call when the black screen occurred, but all other audio was lost.

I have got recordings of the "Green screen" occurring if this would help at all. (Please see the attached video)

I also have several logs of these errors occurring in event viewer.

I've always made sure to keep all drivers up-to-date, windows updates and BIOs updates but nothing seems to help.

I've recently gotten a brand new display port cable to see if that fixed the issue, but it wasn't successful.

My dad and I have tested to see if this was a graphics card issue by displaying on another screen via HDMI but we found it only black screens on the main (display port).

Do you know if this is caused by the i9 13th gen and is there any updates out yet that can fix it potentially?

Please could you let me know.

Many thanks.

Hi Ohmbot,

Thank you for posting at Intel Community Forum

I would like to gain more information for me to have a better approach in trying to resolve the issue you are having. Please share the details below.

1. Was this working fine before?

2. Did you make any recent changes to the system?

3. Have you tried using another display port cable?

4. Have you tried using your iGPU for display?
