Re: BUG: dwm.exe uses memory leakage with Intel HD Graphics 630

We are still seeing this exact issue persist after installing the 30.0.101.1191 (and we've tried the more recenty 30.0.101.1340 version) but the DWM.EXE memory leaks are definitely persisting for us on Dell Optiplex 7080 devices with 630 Intel graphics. Are Intel aware of any outstanding issues and are there any other fixes due for this issue?

It's definitely persisting on these Dell Optiplex 7080 XE devices and we've confirmed the driver version to be at at least 30.0.101.1191 or above so are interested in what we can do to investigate and resolve this as it feels as though it's still there on some hardware types.

I moved this to a new thread since the other thread was confirmed resolved and closed out.

If you're experiencing another DWM issue or a regression, then please provide all information noted here, attach all logs and details to a response, and someone should be able to help you out. Thanks Craig!

Hello CraigDK,

Thank you for posting on the Intel®️ communities. In order to have a better understanding of the issue, please share with us the following information:

  1. Have you tried using the drivers provided by Dell?

Also, please download and install the Intel®️ System Support Utility (Intel®️ SSU):

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-

Open the application and select "Everything" click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel®️ SSU will take you to the "Summary View". Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".

Click on "Next", save the report and attach it to your response.

We've tried the drivers from Dell here - Support for OptiPlex 7080 | Drivers & Downloads | Dell UK (27.20.100.9664) but are getting the same issue. It should be noted this doesn't seem to be affecting all our devices, i.e. some 7080's putting either Dell or Intels driver on (30.0.101.1191 or above) appears to resolve it so there's definitely some environmental aspect at play.

We had 2 x identical 7080 devices with 30.0.101.1191, one was having DWM.EXE memory leaks every few hours and the other was running absolutely fine, we swapped them over (leaving the cabling / monitors alone) and the device that was working is now having the memory leak and the device that was getting the memory leak is now fine. This indicates there is something about either the cabling or the monitors themselves triggering the DWM.EXE memory leak, even with 30.0.101.1191.

We need to work with our customer to review the log files before we can attach something.

@CraigDK No, the issue is fixed. I have a few theories of my own, whats going on for you:

1. You dont have 30.0.101.1191 or higher installed, because Windows rolled back the drivers without your knowledge. Check and confirm via device manager you really have 30.0.101.1191 or higher installed.

2. You dont have latest Windows 10 or 11 installed. There were countless other memory leaks of DWM, which were not related to the Intel drivers. MS fixed a few of them during 2021.

3. Youre confusing a size of 400-700MB of DWM with a memory leak. It can happen under specific scenarios, that DWM still grows to around 400-700MB, but it will always free the memory again at a later point.
