I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z710 running Windows 7 Ultimate. Windows was on my request installed by the vendor, bought end-July 2014.
A month later a vertical blue line appeared on the screen immediately at start and before Windows starts up. When Windows runs, the line can be seen only against a black or very dark background (and then is a little thinner).
I have reason to believe that the Intel graphic driver may be damaged in the software and would like to perform a repair install or reinstall the driver.
Today I attempted to use http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009482.htm Graphics Drivers — How to Identify Your Intel® Graphics Controller to get more data on the installation.
It did not work, stopped with some failure indignation.
After that the laptop does not start in normal mode any more!!!! It hangs with a black window when Windows is about to start.
But is does start in safe mode.
Can I in the safe mode do a reinstall or repair of the software?
Maybe I have a driver version DRIVER VERSION: 15.33.22.3621 ???
I tried to use the Novo button start in the laptop, but that did not help.
LATER:
This is strange! While writing this in my desktop, I left the laptop standing at the hangup with the black window. After MANY MINUTES Windows suddenly did start!!!
Apparently the system has somehow repaired itself after a long time... I can anew boot into Windows normal mode!
I now hesitate to try to identify the controller again... or I might have this problem anew...
Yet I do want to try to repair or reinstall the driver in the hope of getting rid of that disturbing blue line,
and appreciate your help.

Did you see the blue line in safe mode? Can you try to see if the line appears while in BIOS? This is very important because it may indicate the cause of the issue comes from something else other than the driver.
You may also try to uninstall the driver, restart your system, and install it again. Please share your results.

Since the blue line is immediately there from the very beginning, also before Windows starts, it cannot make a difference if I then run Windows in safe mode, or not.
If I open the BIOS, the screen is too bright. The line is seen only against a very dark background. Yet, when in BIOS, there is a medium dark blue ribbon above as part of the window, and there the line can (even though also blue) just barely be seen in the ribbon. So it is there also then.
How do I find out which version I have now, so that I can then reinstall the right one?
I tried with http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009482.htm Identifying your Intel® Graphics Controller in one of your info files, but it failed to find the version – and then I had problems with restarting the computer. I could start only with the system restoring Nova button in my Lenovo, and then it hanged several minutes before starting Windows. Only from trying that website!
What happens to the display if I uninstall it and reboot? Or should I reinstall before rebooting.
If the display is not hampered when this driver is missing, what is the driver really for?

What happens to the display if I uninstall it and reboot?
Windows* installs the Microsoft* inbox driver, it is a basic generic driver which usually gives lower screen resolution (but not in all cases).
If the display is not hampered when this driver is missing, what is the driver really for?
If you do not see the line when the driver is not installed, the issue would be caused by the driver.
You can use the DxDiag report (press Windows* key + R key, type "dxdiag", press OK and then click "Save All Information") or http://www.intel.com/support/siu.htm Intel® System Identification Utility to identify the specific graphics controller.
If you see the line before Windows* starts or in BIOS, the cause of the issue is hardware related and reinstalling the driver will not accomplish any good.
I suggest contacting your system manufacturer for assistance.

I did uninstall and reinstall then driver.
The blue line is still there.
It will be a hardware issue. I still have a guarantee for my laptop and will bring it for servicing.
Thanks for all suggestions. Now this can be closed.

@ Intelectual,
You appear to have a hardware problem with your system. I would suggest you contact http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/contactus Lenovo Customer Support for warrantee options.
Thanks
Robert.
