Shared GPU Memory Override Not available

I am running a Core Ultra 7 155H with the Arc 8 core iGPU and 32Gb ram. I have updated the drivers and intel graphics software and they are both running the latest versions.

I like to run local LLMs in LMStudio and so vram is crucial. Currently, I can only use 18 of my 32Gb to the GPU, but with this feature which I cannot find, I should be able to use 27Gb. This would be a massive jump.

In the release notes, it is stated that the series 1 core ultras would support this feature, but I do not seem to find it.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the help!

Hi @Jonas29

Thank you for contacting Intel regarding the Shared GPU Memory Override feature on your Intel Core Ultra 7 155H with Arc 8-core iGPU. I understand how important this feature would be for your local LLM work in LMStudio, as the additional VRAM allocation would significantly improve your performance.

Since you're using what appears to be an OEM laptop system, I'd like to inform you that laptop manufacturers often customize BIOS settings and driver configurations for their specific hardware implementations. The availability of certain features like Shared GPU Memory Override may depend on your laptop manufacturer's BIOS implementation and driver customizations.

To better assist you with this feature availability, could you please let me know:

What troubleshooting steps have you already attempted to locate this feature in Intel Graphics Software or your system settings?

What specific version of Intel Graphics Software are you currently running? Please provide the exact version number.

Where did you download your Intel graphics drivers from - Intel's website directly, or from your laptop manufacturer's support page?

Have you tried using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to perform a clean removal and reinstallation of your Intel graphics drivers?

If the feature remains unavailable after trying Intel's generic drivers, I recommend contacting your laptop manufacturer's support, as they may need to enable this feature through a BIOS update or provide specific driver versions that support this functionality.

Please let me know the results of these steps, and I'll provide additional guidance based on your findings.

Best regards,

Hi there. Sorry for the late reply.

I am using an Asus Zenbook 14. I am not using Asus' drivers, I installed them straight from intel graphics software.

I have updated everything to the latest version (my Arc Graphics driver is at 32.0.101.6314 and Intel Graphics Software is at 25.40.1953.0). I did not use DDU, but I did install the latest version of the drivers via Arc Graphics Driver, so I would assume it did a great job installing the newest driver (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I believe I downloaded Intel graphics software via Microsoft Store.

Is this feature available in first gen Core Ultra chips?

Hi @Jonas29

Based on the article-Shared GPU Memory Override Feature and Requirements, this feature should work.

Please try the steps outlined below and share the outcome with me afterward.

  • Uninstall Intel Graphics Software (IGS):
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features (or Control Panel > Programs > Add or Remove Programs)
    • Locate Intel Graphics Software and uninstall it completely
  • Perform a Clean Driver Installation:
    • Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove any remaining graphics driver components
    • This ensures a fresh installation without conflicts from previous driver remnants
  • Install the Latest Graphics Driver:

In that article, it is stated that "CPU Requirement: Intel Core Ultra Processors Series 2 or later". My CPU is a Core ultra 7 155H.

In this (https://hwbusters.com/news/intel-releases-new-arc-graphics-drivers-with-shared-gpu-memory-override-and-stability-improvements/) other article that I read some time ago (and other similar articles) it states that series 1 core ultra is compatible too.

Regarding those  intructions, I tried them before apart from DDU, so I will be retrying it soon with DDU.

Hi @Jonas29

That is correct based on my current knowledge. Please try the recommendations I shared, and if the feature is still not available in Intel® Graphics Software, let me know. In the meantime, I will coordinate with our product support specialists regarding this concern. Additionally, after completing the steps, please send an SSU log report so I can review your overall system configuration. I look forward to your response.

I don't know what the heck is going on. After doing all of that, I cannot load LLMs in memory that I could load before 😞

This got even worse for some reason.

I give up. Thanks for the help.

I clean installed a driver from october 2025 and the models load perfectly. for sure a driver issue in the new driver. I will stay on this version. I don't care that much anymore about Shared GPU Memory Override.

Thanks again!

Hi @Jonas29

Thank you for the update. I'm glad to hear that the LLM loading issue has been resolved with the October driver version.

To confirm - are you satisfied with this solution and no longer require assistance with the Shared GPU Memory Override feature?

No worries about the driver issue - I will discuss your findings internally regarding the newer driver compatibility.

Please let us know if you need any further support from my end.
