I have a Dell G16 . I have been experiencing a lot of black screens recently and so have been investigating the Event Log. Amongst other errors, I am seeing masses of Event ID 7000 from Service Control Manager. The description is "The IntelTACD service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified."
Sure enough, looking at c:\windows\system32\drivers, that inteltacd.sys does not exist.
And the thing being that whenever I plug in my device this doesn't occur and when, I use it without plugged in it crashes...
I can find virtually nothing online about this service or file, I have no idea what it does. It might be graphics (hence posting here) or Bluetooth.
The intel DSA says all my drivers are installed and up to date.
In frustration, I removed the service with Regedit, which of course got rid of the errors, but it was soon added back so at next reboot the errors return.
Can anyone advise what this is and how I fix or get rid of it?
Intel - please fix whatever is installing the service without the file it is pointing to! This has created a lot of problem in my Uni life creating errors in peak tensed moments, I have tried everything to resolve it but still can't get of it, kindly help

So the Intel support engineers can have more information about your system, Please download and run the Intel System Support Utility (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows- ) for Windows. Select all data categories and then have it generate a report. Next, have the tool Save the report to a text file (don't try to use the Submit capability; it doesn't work). Finally, using the Drag and drop here or browse files to attach dialog below the edit box for the body of your response post, upload and attach this file to the response post.

Hi JJ_21.
Thank you for reaching out to the Intel Community Forum. I appreciate your message and want to assure you that I’m here to assist you with your concern. To better understand the issue and provide accurate support, could you please share the following details:
- When you say "whenever I plug in my device this doesn't occur" - are you referring to plugging in the power adapter/charger?
- Does the system crash immediately when unplugging the power adapter, or after some time running on battery? Have you noticed any correlation between battery percentage and when crashes occur?
- What type of "black screens" are you experiencing - complete system freeze, blue screen of death (BSOD), or display going black but system still running?
- Do you hear any sounds (fans, hard drive) when the black screen occurs, or does everything go silent?
- Are you able to recover from these black screens without a hard restart?
- When did you first notice these Event ID 7000 errors - was it after a recent Windows update, driver update, or hardware change?
- Have you recently installed any Intel software or packages (Intel DSA, Intel Graphics Command Center, etc.)?
- Can you check if there are any other Intel-related services failing in Event Viewer around the same time as the IntelTACD errors?
- Are you running any power management software or have you modified any power settings in Windows or BIOS?
- Have you made any recent changes to graphics settings, display drivers, or switched between integrated and discrete graphics?
If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,
