Well known Valve Source 1 engine bug

Hello

I am just reporting a bug affecting many many games using the Valve Source 1 engine and Intel GPU's.

My Intel GPU is UHD630.

This affects Intel UHD630, HD Graphics 520 and 530 (and maybe more Intel GPUs).

I've noticed that in CS:GO in maps which make use of the Ambient Occlusion / Tonemapping feature, like de_lake or de_canals the maps are way too dark when playing. The maps display correctly when dead/spectating or watching gotv. As soon as you die, the whole map brightens up like it always should be, after spawning it darkens down to an almost unplayable level.

After researching this a bit it seems CS:GO, L4D2 and probably other Source games are affected by this issue, and maybe even more Intel Graphics Chipsets.

The workaround is to add the following to video.txt:

 

"setting.mat_tonemapping_occlusion_use_stencil" "1"

I have a Intel HD 520 (i5-6300U) using Intel Graphics Drivers Version: 15.60.2.4901 (Latest)

 

OS: Windows 10 Pro (Fall Creators Update)

We will definitely pass this information to the proper team. Then, please try installing the latest graphics drivers for your system (6229) and let us know how it goes:

Hello Anthony

I did install the latest Intel gpu drivers. The problem persisted. I am not sure what cause the problem, its either a bug in the Source 1 engine or the Intel GPU drivers.

I have since got back my Nvidia card wont be able to test the onboard Intel GPU drivers any further, though I am sure many gamers use their onboard Intel GPU for CSGO and it would be awesome if this bug could be fixed. The visuals when playing CSGO is really much darker and not a good experience.

For us to continue researching into this issue, can you please share with us the .txt file that the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows- System Support Utility will generate while using the Intel® HD Graphics controller. To attach a file, you must click the "Attach" option on the bottom right-hand corner of the response box.
