Why does Intel HD GFX Uninstall itself when Hyper-V or Sandbox is enabled?

The graphics drivers remain on the hardware device, however, the software components get uninstalled.

Some Intel Graphics services remain on the system.

 

Is it possible to create a script for a reinstallation or prevent the uninstall from occuring in the first place?

 

In the screenshots below - Hyper-V is disabled - only Sandbox (DisposableClientVM) is enabled.

To better assist you, we would like to gather more information about your system such as the Intel® Processor model, the operating system build, processor graphics, Hyper-V version, desktop/laptop model, etc.

 

If possible, please run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and attach the report to this thread.

 

1. Download the Intel® System Support Utility and save the application in your computer.

2. Open the application and click "Scan" to see system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".

3. To save your scan, click Next and click Save.

Hello,

I was just collecting and comparing the differences of 'igdlh64.inf' from the major OEMs to see if there is anything out of the ordinary.

This issue isn't just specific to my device, but I've read that it can happen to other devices using the Intel HD Driver - with Windows 1803 and above.

 

The link you have provided is broken. Search results from the download site also returns 'page not found'.

Is this driver version 20.19.15.4549 the latest available for your system?

 

For testing purposes, try installing driver version 15.40.42.5063 for Cherry Trail family processors and let us know if the issue persists.

It sure is..

 

Also, from memory, attempting to install 15.40 will fail due to "Device not supported"

 

This led me to a goose chase last year looking for "Intel HD Graphics" and "Intel HD Graphics 400"

EDIT:

When Hyper-V or Sandbox features are disabled, the Intel GFX Control Panel functions correctly, and appears in System Tray.

 

This stops when those features are enabled... seen in original post.

Does the graphics controller/driver get uninstalled from the virtual machine or the host/physical machine?

If the issue occurs on the virtual machine only, this means that the it is not associated with the graphics driver. In this scenario, we recommend contacting the Sandbox* Help and Support channels and Microsoft* for further troubleshooting.

 

if this problem occurs on the physical machine/host, then we would like to have the following information to better assist you:

 

DxDiag* report:

1. In the keyboard, press WinLogo key + R. 

2. Type “dxdiag” and press Enter.

3. Click on "Save All Information" and save it on your computer.

4. Attach the report to this thread.
