Windows 8.1 HD4000 cannot update driver

I have updated my Asus Transformer Book TX300 to Windows 8.1 (64 bit). It has the standard 10.18.10.3308 driver installed for my Intel HD Graphics 4000. I downloaded the new 10.18.10.3316 driver, but when I try to install it I get the message "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer.". This does not only happen with this driver, but also any other older driver version that is compatible with my Intel HD Graphics 4000.

Asus has yet to put up any of its own published drivers for the Asus Transformer Book TX300 with Windows 8.1. How do I fix this problem and update my driver?

Hi inAbag,

The reason you are getting this message is because your computer expects you to get the driver directly from your OEM. However, you can get around this by doing the Manual Driver Installation method outlined here; http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-033916.htm Desktop graphics drivers — Have Disk Driver Install Steps For Microsoft Windows 8* & 8.1*

Thanks,

I already tried that. The only thing I get when I do that is "Windows has determined that the driver software for your service is up to date."

I even tried selecting each subfolder, but no result. I keep getting the same message.

I would recommend doing a full driver uninstall first then. Go into Device Manager, right click the Intel® 'Display Adapter' and select 'Uninstall'. Select the checkbox for deleting driver files as well. Do this and reboot your computer - and repeat until the name of the driver is the 'Basic Microsoft Display Adapter'. This means you've made it back to the in-box drivers that came with the OS. From there, try doing the install method as stated above.

Let me know if this works for you

That worked. Uninstalling the old driver and then installing the new one manually did the trick. Thank you for your help Nic.

Hi,

I have tried doing this for the same problem and it now proclaims that the Basic Display Adaptor is the most up to date driver. I am also on the asus tx300. I have tried a number of times and it persists in telling me I already have the most up to date driver.

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Hi jamesthebridges,

You will need to update your system using the graphics driver provided by your OEM. https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_Transformer_Book_TX300/# support Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS Transformer Book TX300

We do not currently provide drivers for tablet products, and the policy is that users are to obtain graphics drivers for their tablets directly from the manufacturer of said tablet.

Thanks,

-Nic

Hi Nic,

I have this same message and issue, only with the HD Graphics 4400. I am a bit worried about fully uninstalling the graphics driver I currently have. If it does not adhere to re-installing a current driver update for what ever reason, it will be left as a 'basic microsoft display adapter'. ...then what can I do! My manufacturer currently has no updates for this driver. Hope you can help!

I have tried uninstalling until it reaches the Basic Microsoft Display Adapter but before I could install the latest driver it automatically installs the one from the manufacturer. I even unplugged the internet and still does it. And trying to install the latest driver from Intel always fails with a error message same as OP.

Hi ObserverJLinm

If you have the latest driver provided by Microsoft for the Operating System when you uninstall the Intel® driver it will keep the latest Microsoft driver.

If you get a notification message during the installation, it indicates that your computer manufacturer does not allow the installation of generic Intel video drives. You are required to install drivers from your computer manufacturer.

You may try to force the installation of Intel generic drivers by performing manual procedure, see here for instructions:

@ kevin_intel

Thank you for your reply.

I have tried your method with "include subfolders" on and off but it does not work. It searched in the folder which I unzipped (using 7-Zip) the latest driver from your link and it came up with "The best driver software for your device is already installed" while only driver version 10.18.10.3304 is installed from 09/09/2013.

I am really sorry you are still having the problem. At this point since you are still having problems, my best recommendation is to contact the Computer Manufacture so they can provide the custom driver specifically designed for your system.

This is Windows 8.1 problem as I can not update NONE of my drivers, not just video. Uninstalling current video driver will most likely result in not being able to install any other drivers but default Microsoft VGA driver which for me will result in erasing Window 8.1 and reverting back to Window 7. Microsoft should address this issue where even OEM drivers will not install. It looks like currently install drivers are locked in and can not be updated. Even F7 trick will not release it. I tried everything else including manual drivers update. Same error: Drivers not validated.. blah.. blah.. I just left it alone. Do not feel like formatting my C: drive.
