Windows 8.1 driver issues

Hi, as the title suggests I'm having some problems with windows 8.1, only when playing games, at the beginning I had some low on memory warnings then few days ago a bsod related to igdkmd64.sys after 10 mins of playing, never had all these issues with win 8

my computer is a clevo laptop, 780m nvidia and intel 4600 as display adapters, I have the latest drivers for both (10.18.10.3316 for the 4600)

I update win 8 using windows store but I never had the code 31 or 43 issues

basically I'm having almost the same problems:

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?29317-Optimus-V-17-3-quot-Windows-8-1-BSOD-igdkmd64-sys Optimus V 17.3" Windows 8.1 BSOD igdkmd64.sys

really, it can't be a coincidence.....

I try to install old 4600 drivers but that doesn't work, I also try the latest drivers available from clevo, no luck

In my opinion there are clearly some issues between intel drivers and any other 3rd graphic cards (amd or nvidia)

Also I have two doubt in my mind:

1 older graphics drivers for windows 8 can safelly be used with win 8.1 ??

2 when you install or reinstall intel drivers on a notebook is better to also install the drivers for the dgpu at the (almost) same time, even if you already had the latest drivers for the dgpu, or you can install only intel drivers with no problems ??

p.s. I'm from italy so I'm sorry for my mistakes

ok guys, listen carefully because maybe (and I mean MAYBE) I found the solution, I'm not the one who had this idea in the first place, I found it by searching on the internet, read these :

http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/648814842773996630/ Windows 8.1 "Low on Memory" error and crash. :: Help and Tips

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-gaming/windows-81-x64-low-memory-while-playing-full/e4602805-a1e1-4704-b006-92f43247b9e8 Windows 8.1 x64 - Low memory while playing full screen games - Microsoft Community

it seems that the problem is the different resolution of the game you are playing and the desktop resolution, I know it seems a little bit strange, but I'm use this trick and for 4 times I was able to play for more than 1 hour without any problem (and with windows 8.1 it's the first time that I can play for more than 40 minutes).... I'm not completely sure about this but maybe it's the real solution to this issue!!

I have to add that I'm also using a new driver provided with windos update 10.18.10.3379, so maybe it's also a combination of these two things, honestly I don't have the time and the will to do some tests with different driver versions....

I hope that this will really help all the guys (including me...)with this bad problem!!

I've heard that fixes the bug.. but I shouldn't be forced to play at my resolution of windows, So, this is still a bug that needs to be fixed.

it's a temporary solution, IF that is the real problem, but it's still a solution.... and at least we know where the problem lies (....and also switching the resolution it's not a big deal)

of course now it's up to Microsoft to fix the problem (let me say it again: IF that is the real problem) permanently

@GuniGuGu: Firstly, I would verify that your BIOS is up to date. I just tried to find those files on your systems support website, but I don't see any firmware updates or any associated files there. I'm curious to know if your system OEM has even released a firmware update to support Windows* 8.1 as well.

@Linnber: There is a BIOS update available for your system. You have version 205, this is version 207; https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K46CB/# support Notebooks & Ultrabooks - K46CB. It does not sound as if it has any direct benefits or fixes for your situation though, so consider it an optional BIOS upgrade. Also, you are running the 3316 version of the driver, please upgrade to 3345 and let me know if this issue still occurs. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23405&keyword=3345&DownloadType=Drivers&lang=eng Download Center

Lastly, try the latest driver for your 3rd party card. Here is the download for that; http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/70740 Drivers | GeForce Let me know if after all this is done, if you are still having issues.

@WtoNHK77: Can you clarify something for me please. You mentioned before that you could play for 40-60 mins continuously with your suggested work-around. However, after that 40-60 minutes, did you experience a driver failure? Or you just did not test any longer than that? Also, can you test running at the resolution configuration you had before, but with the 3379 driver? I'm interested in knowing if the issue you are reporting was resolved by simply upgrading the driver, or if you still need the resolution work-around.

Thanks everyone,

-Nic

I mean that with this work-around I can play at least for 1 hour because usually I don't play for 2 or 3 hours, not because after 1 hour I'm having the usual bsod, with this work-around I never saw the usual igdkmd64.sys bsod.

I did not test for more than 1 hour only because usually I don't play more than that.

Before using this work-around I wasn't able to play for more than 30-40 minutes.

Hi WtoNHK77,

Thanks for the information. I will let Nic know about this. In the meantime note that the issue is under investigation to have a resolution as soon as possible.

hi kevin, as asked by Nic I did some test with the new driver (3379) without using the resolution work-around but I had the usual low on memory error so, for me, the only way to avoid bsod and low on memory error is to use the work-around (wich is not a big deal for me, but obviously is not the perfect solution for everybody)

It seems there are a number of users with the Clevo W230st with this low memory issue in Windows 8.1: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo-reviews-owners-lounges/715556-official-clevo-w230st-sager-np7330-owners-lounge-346.html ***Official Clevo W230ST/Sager NP7330 Owner's Lounge***** - Page 346

Hi all,

I'm not sure if the BIOS updates resolved the other folks issues, but it seems like GuniGuGu & WtoNHK77, Clevo* W230ST users - are still having this problem.

Can you verify that your Windows* is up to date, that you have the latest drivers installed - and that you are still experiencing the issue? Also, where do you get BIOS updates for that system? As I mentioned previously, I was unable to find any BIOS downloads on the Clevo* website.

Thanks,

-Nic
