INTEL - SYSTEM - 10.1.39.8

Install error - 0x80070103

I have multiple Dell Precision 5860 Towers with the same issue. One Windows update will always fail, I have tried many troubleshooting steps to solve it. I have wiped and reinstalled Windows 11, but the same issue always happens. The error indicates this is a graphics issue, these machines do not have Intel Integrated Graphics, only an NVIDIA GPU. Looking in another forum, this is also happening with Lenovo ThinkStations. Is there any known fix to this issue?

Same exact issue.  Dell Precision 7960.  Have reinstalled Windows as well but to no avail.

Searching for this error finds suggestions to uninstall Intel display driver and retry the update, because the error code happens when the version is already installed.  But I have no Intel graphics in the first place, there are no displays in the Device Manager besides NVIDIA ones with NVIDIA drivers.  Why is this update even getting installed in the first place?

Hello NickSV,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

Attempting to update a driver update that has previously been installed frequently results in error "0x80070103".

I understand that you have Windows Update issues on your multiple Dell Precision 5860 Towers on which you've applied different troubleshooting to no avail. Since you have confirmed that your system does not utilize any integrated graphics (only NVidia GPU), then it would be best to contact your system manufacturer support team for any possible driver issues and to reach out to the operating system (OS) vendor for the failed updates.

I hope the information I shared helps.

Best regards,

Jeanette C.

Same exact issue.  Precision 5860.  Problem happened after I recently (3/6/25) installed a large windows 11 for workstations update.  The sad thing, after noticing this error, my computer fans ramping up just running windows and temperature measures are high.  I think it might have to do with the 24H2 windows 11 update that has caused a lot of grief.  Please help.  Have any of you found a solution to this problem?!

Hey all - this has been bugging me for weeks. Is it because I'm running a 7960T w9-3495x w/256GB ram and some odd TB with an Nvidia Ada RTX5000? Is there a way to remove the offending bytes or bit of software that cause the install conflict of INTEL - System - 10.1.39.8? I'm running  combinations in storage, and like keeping things ship-shape. Is this a conflict with Nvidia drivers or something more unusual? Nothing I do makes a difference. Uggh. Kaz

Kaz, did this happen after the 24H2 windows 11 update?  Is your computer's performance declining?

Unfortunately I cannot offer advice.  My CPU started to max out at 100% while windows was idle.  I tried rolling back windows to a restore point before the update and something went wrong in the process, so ended up having to reformat my computer!  Of course it reinstalled the suspect 24H2 windows, so next plan is to reformat again with the older copy of windows.

Please Intel, help us get to the bottom of this.  As expected; Dell blames MS, MS blames intel, and intel blames Dell.  I don't know who is responsible but people work together to help us solve this issue.  I'm worried this bug cooked my expensive hardware (500GB of RAM running hot).

From the earlier comments, I can't tell if other people are having hardware problems or just annoyed by the install error message.

Thanks

Thanks for the question. Yes, I always keep everything up to date. That said, I’m still seeing the error message. I’ve paused updates just to avoid the annoyance, though I’m not entirely sure if it’s impacting performance. My 7960 is still blazingly fast—just how I like it. It’s one of three systems I use, though I haven’t been using it as much lately since much of my work is either out in the field or handled on my SOHO setup. When I’m back there, I usually run things on my 5820 W-2295 with 256GB RAM, which doesn’t have this issue. though interestingly it runs three smaller Nvidia GPUs and doesn’t show any of the glitches I see on the 7960, which is powered by an RTX 5000 Ada. I’ve noticed that certain 5860s and 7960s seem to be affected, so I’m starting to think this might be an architecture-specific quirk—possibly something to do with the motherboard design, Nvidia software, or Intel driver behavior, or perhaps is wholly a MS software thing. For reference, only my Dell Latitude 7350 Detachable uses Intel Graphics, and it’s been trouble-free. I wonder if removing the Intel graphics drivers, if they're present, from the 7960 might resolve the issue. I do regularly use Intel’s automated driver updater, which may have put drivers in from the section where it says, "is your system ready for Intel graphics,", but I suspect that’s unrelated. My gut says it’s more likely a Microsoft oddity than anything else, just because of where it's coming from; I wonder if any of you all are Microsoft Insiders, as I am (Beta/Release Preview) but I believe the error comes up even if you're not. Lemme know -  Peace and Ciao - Kaz

MTH11, has this error caused you any hardware performance issues?

New information, I updated all my drivers and bios and the error message persists.  Intel, please reply... and work with MS to get to the bottom of this.  Thanks

Yes. everything over a remote connection seems to take a bit longer to render, some things much longer and sometimes the graphics just never finish loading. I can log into any other computer on the same LAN (almost 100 to choose from) in the office with no issues. I have fully updated the 5860 and checked its performance levels when this situation is happening, and OS does not indicate any issues, with drive, CPU, Memory, network, they are all below 50%.

This is the only machine in the office with the T1000 NVIDIA card. The system is Windows 11 and I am connecting to it from Win10, but no other Win11s exhibit this behavior.

I have this same issue on a brand-new Dell 7960 as well. It has had this issue since the very first time we ran windows update the funny thing is that in the history every time we try to run this update in hist it shows as successful.

Same here...
Brand new Dell 7960 Rack with Win11 OS, also having this same issue since the first boot-up

Do you by any chance have an issue with the fans as well....? In our case they are running crazy at maximum speed (approx. 24k RPM), and there is no way to lower the speeds, neither by installation of latest drivers, nor installing the latest BIOS version. Any setup within the BIOS that is done, does not affect the fans speed at all. That loud noise is soo disturbing after being around for more than en minutes

Reading above that there are cases with high fans speed that are potentially caused by this issue. Hopefully solution on this case will sort out the fans problem for me

Please let me know if you come across solution. Will appreciate it a lot
