Windows overwrites graphics driver

Hello World,

I'm stuck in a driver update loop.

1. Intel DSA always tells me that a new driver version 32.0.101.8331 is available.

2. So I update it successfully and reboot.

3. After a reboot I'm back to version 32.0.101.6629 from Windows Update.

Now I tried to update the driver with network cable unplugged.

That worked.

But as soon as I plug the network cable in, Windows installs the 32.0.101.6629 downgrade again

Then I reboot and I'm back to step 1.

How can I break the cycle?

Update to the driver you want.  Then, immediately run the wuShowHide utility (attached) to hide/block the microsoft driver.

Great, thank you for your quick response.

But I wonder if some third party tool is the way how it is intended to work between billion dollar companies.

An official solution would also be interesting.

Well, wuSHowHide is a microsoft tool.  The driver debacle is an ongoing problem between Intel and Microsoft, where both claim no responsibility.  But, it is Intel who caused the problem and refuses to address the issue.  So, while not perfect, wuShowHide is all we have at the present time.

Finally I found some time to try it.

At the second attempt I had the right timing and wuShowHide offered to hide the driver.

But after a few hours Windows requests a reboot again for a rollback to "Intel Corporation - Display - 31.0.101.3616" through Windows Update.

I'm getting nuts...

What did you do between the wushowhide and the reboot?  Did you run any cleaners?

I did nothing and I hate cleaners.

On the first attempt my timing was bad, so I needed a second attempt.

Once the driver was installed, I ran the tool which showed the "3616" driver.

I picked the option to hide it and let the tool finish.

Then I rebooted Windows.

I also noticed that despite successful driver installation with the Intel installer the "Intel Driver- and Support-Assistant" shows "Installation failed with error code 1014".

When I update the graphics driver from the Intel Graphics Software update option it works.

Maybe I reboot and give it another try and this time I document all steps precisely.
