There is no "best" or "correct" processor. There are hundreds of 4th, 5th, and 6th generation processors to evaluate. Selecting one requires that you know what features you want/need.

Also, note that you cannot update your old E5500 with a current processor, as the current processors will not fit the socket of the E5500.

Perhaps you can explain what you need, and one of the community members or Intel support staff can help you. But, first you must know what you want to accomplish. Also, you may want to look at pre-configured systems that suit your needs.

Also, you must be patient. The Intel support staff will respond when they can.

If everything is ok, then why do you have graphics issues? It is because of the g31/g33/p35 chipset. You can run the generic graphics driver from Microsoft. However, as you have discovered, you will have graphics problems. Intel is not updating their drivers to support your chipset.

Stay with Windows 7, or upgrade your system to a current processor/graphics.

Hello, pvss:

Thank you for contacting the Intel Communities.

As Al mentioned before, "There is no "best" or "correct" processor".

However, I have something you could try to find your new processor.

1. Access http://ark.intel.com/ http://ark.intel.com/

2. Under processors, select Desktop.

3. You will be prompted with a list of links to the different generations and families of processors.

4. There you can browse from the 4th gen to the 6th gen, looking for processors that could suit

your needs.

Which would be better for you?

That depends on different things.

-How much power consumption you are looking for from less to more it could be interpreted as i3s good i5 mid range and i7 high end (this would apply as well for performance)

-How much you woul like to spend, there you would see the recommended prices for customers.

-The appliance the unit will be used for, gaming from i5s to i7s, media center a core i3 would work great.

Those are a few to consider, but if you would like to, you could provide us with a brief explanation of the usage you could be providing to the processor and with that we could advise you on which would be good for you.

Please remember that you can get this type of information in this link as well: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html?group=graphics http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html?group=graphics

There you can start a chat session, phone or send us an email depending on your location.

Finally, here you would be able to find authorized stores (that as well can provide you with guidance on the possible purchase of the new unit): http://locate.intel.com/ http://locate.intel.com/

If you require any further information or support, do not hesitate to contact us back.

Regards,
