swapping display order in collage mode for a dual tile 4K screen

As intel's driver team still hasn't caught up with their marketing (there's no drivers for 4K screens operating in tiled mode (so DisplayPort MST mode with the screen appearing as two discrete displays that the driver needs to stitch back together as one single display)), I have to operate a Dell 4K screen in collage mode. How can I swap the order of the two display halves in that mode? In extended mode, I can drag and drop the two displays around so display 2 (left half of the screen) is on the left and siplay 1 (right half of the screen) is to the right, but as soon as I swap to collage mode, display 1 is to the left and 2 to the right which is completely useless, and there's no dragging and dropping or otherwise reordering the two display halves.

PCs used are HP Elitebook 840 G1 and Gigabyte Brix GB-BXi7-4500 on W8.1 with the june beta drivers (15.36.0.3652). (I initially ran drivers 15.33.22.3621) but got a nice crash loop out of them so I upgraded.

Please send me this picture as soon as you can, since I would like to check which options you are seeing there.

Sorry for the late replay - I seem not to get any emails about new posts.

This is what we're starting with when I connect to the screen - it is extended mode, the left half of the screen being screen 2 (so things start "in the middle of the screen", go to the right, then switch to the left).

Now, if I drag and drop screen 1 to the left

Then press apply, the displays are properly ordered in the control panel, the extended display still "starts" in the middle of the screen, goes to the right, then continues on the left. And since a picture is better than a thousand words, here's a picture taken from my cellphone - even though in the intel CP it says display 1 is to the left of display 2, the display identification clearly shows this is not the case.http://postimg.org/image/7kntyjupj/ http://postimg.org/image/7kntyjupj/

Now switching to collage mode, I'm first configuring display 1 to the left, and display 2 to the right

If I apply these settings, here's what I get - you see there's only one start button so collage mode is active the way I configured it, but despite the control panel stating display 1 is to the left, if I identify the displays, number 2 is to the left. So then I try to correct that, and select the other display as primary display. If I press identify prior to apply, you can see that display 1 is to the left: http://postimg.org/image/k596aizsp/ http://postimg.org/image/k596aizsp/

Note that this is on an DELL UP3214Q REV A01 display.

Also, my display was recently swapped, prior to this I had a REV A00 display (the A01 fixes sleep issues) - I managed to get collage mode working with the A00 display using the same drivers - but still, depending on which order of the screens I chose (in collage and extended mode), the machine would simply reboot, indicating that there are still issues to be resolved. Also, there is a new beta driver mentioned here /thread/53655?sr=inbox https://communities.intel.com/thread/53655?sr=inbox which seems to properly identify the tiled displays as a single display so there's no need for extended displays or collage mode. I still suspect there's some weirdness going on with high displays - but for those 4K screens, properly identifying the screen as a single display is the right direction to go in.

I'm trying to replicate this behavior using a Dell laptop; unfortunately I do not have an HP laptop handy to use for testing.

So, using the laptop and an ASUS monitor, I am not experiencing this behavior, however I'm going to install the BETA drivers in order to see what happens.

Are you using any kind of adapter?

Would you please provide me the complete model number of the monitor you are using?

How many monitors are you connecting to the HP laptop?

Regarding the thread about 4 k resolutions @ 60hz, please continue posting on that link since these are 2 different issues.

No, there's no adapter in play - a straight DP capble is all I'm using. And as the Elitebook is my work PC, I'm not at liberty to just swap out drivers at a whim (I'm lucky enough to be allowed to install anything that requires admin permissions) so I'm doing most of my testing with the Gigabyte Brix.

I suspect that the issue doesn't depend on the PC, rather on the screen as the Dell (and it's 24" sibling) is known to be rather problematic and comes in two revisions that both act differently.

Joining this conversation. I have a NUC with hd5000 graphics and an ASUS pq321 monitor. I realized I had been running it in 30hz since getting it.

Downloaded the newest Intel drivers offered by Windows Update and set up collage mode. In general works fine until I leave the machine for a while. I don't allow my machine to sleep, but it does turn the monitor off after a while. Once it does I can't get it to come back up with keyboard/mouse. I have to turn it off and back on. Once I do so and log back into Windows 8.1, all my open windows have shrunk down to a small size in the top left corner of the screen and there is a ghost taskbar in the middle top of area of the screen. Have to log off and back on for that to go away. Will try the latest drivers from Intel now.

Tried the newest 3907 drivers. Collage mode only offers up to 3840x1440 now. Weird. Very disappointed in the quality of Intel drivers. Had to revert back to the May drivers where I expect I'll still have the problems if the monitor sleeps/is turned off.

@pesospesos: mind if I ask you something a bit OT regarding your screen: Do you have a machine with a recent AMD or nVidia GFX card, and if so, could you tell me whether the Asus screen does get you 1920x1080 @60Hz and 2560x1440 at 60 Hz? Just wondering whether the asus screen has the same issues as the dell (the asus shouldn't have any sleep issues, and there's a downloadable firmware update so you may want to make sure you're running the latest monitor firmware (Dell unfortunately does not allow users to update the firmware of their monitors without RMA'ing them))
