ARC A770 - Computer Power Reset @3D game start

Issue: computer loses power then auto restarts when trying to play any 3D graphics.

ARC A770 boots windows 11 64bit 2H22 no issues.

2D games or video run fine. boot up fine.

Any 3D games run, it turns off the computer & reboots immediately when any 3D graphics start.

I got lucky one time. ran Risk (2D game). Then ran Hot wheels unleashed (video into and 3D)...3D ran. Rebooted. Ran unleashed again and immediate crash

System:

Prior removed Nvidia 1050Ti(plus all drivers removed).

ARC A770 installed + drivers 4091 and now Beta 4123. Both tested/crashed. Beta in currently

MB: MSI Z690-P DDR4

PWS: OCZ ModXSTREAM-PRO 700W

CPU: Gen 12 I3 12100

Memory: 3200 XMP Teamsgroup 16GB

Resizable BAR confirmed active/enabled (on ARC Control & BIOS)

Note as well, on boot up it asks every time for approval for intel arc control...annoying.

I wanted to come back and give everyone some info on my prior ARC issue where it would shutdown/restart only when starting a 3D game (2D was ok).

I traced the issue to power supply.

Please note the prior power was perfectly fine (was running prior a 1050TI with OZ 700W power supply...ran no issues).

unfortunately I had to return the arc 770 before finding this out.

but I tested a 3060 and a RTX similar. Both produced same crash issue.

I then bought a newer power supply Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 750W.

....and the issue went away.

Added info...

1) During boot up I always get a popup to approve ARC control....annoying (image attached)

2)System Support Util dump...see Intel keeps asking for this so ran it

3)Event viewer dump little before and after I ran hot wheels unleashed and crashed just when 3D started. Crash event should be around 9:42pm

Also a side note you may see in the event log.

I had a prior ASUS motherboard. removed the board due to issues for a MSI board, but forgot to remove the ASUS drivers etc. Some ASUS files would not remove so I turned them off in the startup log.

If event viewer notes loking for asus thats why....dont think thats my graphics issue.

Also I do have latest Bios loaded (AB)

Hoping someone can help. I love the ARC A770 look and hear great things, but if it wont play I'll be heading back to Nvidia.

So hoping someone can help

Thought maybe the ARC controller was issue of crash so unintalled it.

With Beta driver still in, ran Hot wheels unleashed and also older one like the room 3...both crashed on start of any 3D.

I also did clean install back to 4091 and still crashing on any 3D run

Does Intel support reply on these?

If not I'm going to return product and move onto Nvidia for stability.

Id prefer supporting ARC though

Hello Jlans,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities.

The Windows UAC Admin is required to install and launch Arc Control is a known issue and we are working on a solution.

Based on your response, you mentioned that you changed the graphics card. Since you have a different GPU installed previously on your system, you mentioned that previous drivers were removed, however, sometimes previous files leftovers from your previous card may be still present on your system. We advise you to run the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) as this software will remove packages from your system. Take a look at the How to Use the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to Uninstall an Intel® Graphics Driver article for further information and steps.

After that, we recommend you install our latest production driver, 31.0.101.4091. BETA releases are for testing, and for the most stable experience please use the fully validated production releases.

If the issue is still present, could you share a system report using the Intel® Graphics Command Center:

  • Open the Intel Graphics Command Center
  • Navigate to the Support tab
  • Select System Diagnostic
  • Click Generate Report
  • Select Save and name the output file.

Hello Jean,

Thank you for the reply.

As requested attached is an Intel Graphics Command Center run for your review.

Still having crashes be it the Beta4123 or the now 4091 WHQL. Though I may say the 4123 maybe little better. Hard to tell. Unstable

Anyways here is a walk on what I did.

I had seen DDU idea so already had a jump on that.

As before, confirmed BIOS has Adj bar/4K as suggested. Confirmed on boot correct as well.

With HDMI cable:

1)Ran DDU safe mode. I repeated a couple times 1)GPU/NVIDIA, 2)Audio/Realtek, 3)Audio/creative, last GPU/Intel...clean house as it were.

Note I loaded while in safe mode the beta 4123 and rebooted. I notice the ARC control didnt load but the driver confirmed 4123.

Started hot wheels and to my surprise worked. Tried 3D mark and Elden ring...failed immediately. Tried older one like Giana sisters...set to direct 9...started but massive delays.

2) reran DDU safe mode. GPU/Intel. removing the beta.

Booted and installed WHQL 4091 as your requested. ARC control installed as well.

rebooted. The ARC ok to run again annoyingly repops up. but I said yes

reran hot wheels...crashed. same with others.

3)swapped from HDMI to display port (my screen X27q...high refresh capable).

reran HW but crash again.

4)lastly ran the attached graphics command center dump as you requested.

Let me know thoughts.

Also here is a video of the ARC performance page (ALT O) on from start of hot wheels through start up page, but crashed as it transitions into the inital 3D page (main page...3d car with game options before any game play selected)

Only thing I noted in video near end was the memory usage climbing and then computer power shutdown with immediate reboot

Hello Jlans,

We appreciate your response.

This time we would like to recommend trying the following:

  • To discard any Operating System issues. Could you try a fresh OS install? To find information about how to install the operating system, visit the following article.
  • Also, can you test a different Power supply?

I gave up Intel ARC and returned it.

Very disappointed with the driver support.

Hi support team,

I have massive issueswhen I start a 3D game.

As long as I'm in the menu everything is fine. When I then start into the game computer restarts.  With my old GTX1070 I had no issues.

I've done a clean driver installation with using DDU for uninstall the old NVidia driver.

Games tested with: Warhammer 40k Rogue Trade, Darktide, Helldivers2.

Counter Strike 2 is running good.

System:

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700k

RAM: 32GB

MB: Gigabyte Z370p-d3

VGA: ASRock ARC A770 Phantom Gaming

PSU: Sharkoon WPM700 bronze

(old) VGA: Gainward GTX1070

Games tested with: Warhammer 40k Rogue Trade, Darktide, Helldivers2.

Counter Strike 2 is running good.

Thx for your help.

Regards

Patrick

@Patrick78        You do know that your card is not supported by your processor (or your processor does not support your card):

"Here they get it to work:"

Good.  Get them to support you, as you do not meet Intel's requirements.

Maybe Intel has an interest to get new customers for the grafikcards and try to help them.
Be somewhere else rude. No thx.

Maybe, but you come here with an unsupported configuration, based on a hack from some other site, and then expect Intel to devote their time to helping you when they have enough problems helping supported customers..  Pretty selfish, if you ask me.  Why not get your friends over at reddit to help you?  Better yet, stop trying to beat the system and get a supported configuration.

I bought Intel hardware and they didn't get it run.
I can by any Nvidia or AMD graficscard and it will run in my setup.with no problem, so Intel should do their homework and get this run if they want customers to buy it.
And the customers are these who will upgrade their system and nnot the ones who build a new system from scratch.

But as long as you are not an Intel support guy you don't speak for them. You are only trolling. Shame on you.

It's in every forum the same. Bye.

@Patrick78  No, I do not speak for Intel.  You still do not understand the the Intel document I liked to is Intel.  You did read it, correct?

There is a special kind of person who likes to use the word troll incorrectly.  You are one of them.   Now, I caution you.  Name calling will get you banned.
