Arc B580 not scaling correctly to 1440p

I have the problem from the subject with Intel Arc B580 connected to 4K UHD TV. When I play PC games and want to lower the resolution to 1440p from native, I receive a windowed instead of full screen. The same happens and when just changing the desktop resolution of  Win11. There is no problem with 1080p or 2160p (native). Doesn't matter if scaling mode is changed in Intel graphics software from Display to GPU.

I confirm my initial findings regarding the reported scaling issue. Based on the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) provided, the observed behavior is consistent with limitations inherent to the connected TV display. This conclusion aligns with previous replications of the issue during my investigation.

 

Given these findings, I recommend consulting the TV or monitor manufacturer for further assistance, as the issue appears to originate from the display hardware’s capabilities rather than the system, drivers or software configuration.

🧩 Why it happens

Your 4K UHD TV is probably reporting supported resolutions and scaling modes (EDID data) to Windows and the Intel driver.
Some TVs don’t properly advertise 1440p (2560×1440) as a true fullscreen mode — they treat it as a PC “windowed” or “non-scaling” resolution. The GPU, respecting the TV’s EDID, sends it as a smaller image in the center of the screen instead of scaling it to full-screen.

That’s why:

  • 1080p and 2160p work (fully supported by your TV’s EDID),

  • but 1440p shows up windowed.


Try these solutions

  1. Force GPU scaling manually

    • Open Intel Graphics Command CenterDisplay.

    • Select your TV.

    • Under Scaling, choose "Maintain Display Scaling" or “Scale Full Screen”.

    • Then toggle between Display and GPU scaling and hit Apply again — sometimes it only takes effect after a refresh.

  2. Use a Custom Resolution

    • In Intel Graphics Command Center → DisplayCustom Resolutions, create one for 2560×1440 @ 60Hz.

    • This can override the TV’s EDID limitation and force a full-screen signal.

    • Make sure your HDMI cable and port are HDMI 2.0 or higher to avoid signal loss.

  3. Check TV Picture Settings

    • On your TV, set the HDMI input label to PC Mode or Game Mode.

    • Turn overscan or screen fit to on/full/just scan.

    • Some TVs only allow full scaling when they detect a PC mode input.

  4. Disable Windows display scaling

    • Go to Settings → System → Display → Scale & layout.

    • Set scaling to 100%, then reapply 1440p.

    • Occasionally Windows’ desktop scaling interacts poorly with the driver scaling.

  5. Update drivers and firmware

    • Ensure your Intel Arc graphics driver and TV firmware are both up to date.

    • Intel has fixed a few scaling-related issues in driver versions released mid-2024 onward.


🧠 Bonus check

If you connect a standard PC monitor instead of the TV and 1440p goes full screen, that confirms it’s the TV’s EDID limiting full-screen support for that resolution.
