Destiny 2 freezing on Intel Arc A580 after The Edge of Fate expansion launch

Hello,

I wanted to report an issue related to Destiny 2 that's been happening since the launch of the latest expansion, The Edge of Fate. Since the expansion's launch, my Intel Arc A580 has been freezing and softlocking or crashing (Didn't know the right word to use). This would happen in either three ways: The game is open for longer than five minutes, it happens during a mission or free roam, or it happens when a mission ends. This has been happening since driver 32.0.101.6913 (WHQL Certified). This issue hasn't been fixed with newer drivers, including the latest driver, 32.0.101.6987 (WHQL Certified). Rolling back drivers before 32.0.101.6913 (WHQL Certified) doesn't solve the issue either. This problem has been a massive pain to deal with. The video shows what the freezing and crashing looks like. I hope this could be fixed, I would like to play the game please. Thank you.

Hello ShushiAra,

Thank you for posting on Intel Community Forum.

I appreciate that you attached a video clip so we can have a wider view of the issue. For us to assist you effectively, kindly share the information below.

1. Is the issue isolated to Destiny 2?

2. Which game distribution platform are you using (Steam, Epic Games, etc.)?

3. Have you performed a clean installation of the latest Intel Arc drivers?

4. Have you checked the Windows Event Viewer for any related error logs or warnings?

5. What graphics settings are you using in Destiny 2, and have you tried lowering them to see if it affects the freezing or crashing?

Additionally, to have a better understanding of your system configuration and components please generate System Support Utility (SSU) report. Please follow instructions here and send the report - How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows*

I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards

Hello,

This is an issue that is isolated and specific to Destiny 2, I play the game on Steam. I use Display Driver Uninstaller to uninstall drivers and install the latest ones on the Intel Arc driver webpage. Checking Windows Event Viewer reported this: "The program destiny2.exe version 39078.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel", when checking to see what it was in the Security and Maintenance section of the Windows Control Panel, it repeated that exact same message. The error is most likely due to me closing Destiny 2 via task manager every time the game froze for all eternity. I tried multiple graphical settings: lowest, medium, high, highest, and a custom graphics setting which are the following:

Anti-Aliasing: FXAA

Screen Space Ambient Occlusion: HDAO

Texture Anisotropy: 4X

Texture Quality: High

Shadow Quality: Medium

Depth of Field: High

Environment Detail Distance: Medium

Character Detail Distance: Medium

Foliage Detail Distance: Medium

Foliage Shadows Distance: Medium

Light Shafts: High

Motion Blur: On

Wind Impulse: On.

I have a provided a SSU report here.

Thank you very much

Hello ShushiAra,

Thank you for sharing all this information.

To further troubleshoot the issue, kindly follow the outlined steps below.

1. Update the BIOS to the latest version available for your system to ensure optimal hardware compatibility and performance.

2. Reduce in-game graphics settings in Destiny 2 to determine if lower settings mitigate freezing or performance issues.

3. Verify that Destiny 2 is fully updated by checking for and installing any available game patches or updates.

4. Adjust your computer’s power settings to “High Performance” to maximize system responsiveness and resource allocation.

5. Reinstall Destiny 2 to resolve any potential file corruption or installation-related issues.

If you continue to experience the same issue, please let me know.

Best regards

Hello,

After doing all these things, the issue still occurs. Regardless of what I do and regardless of the steps provided, the issue continues to occur without any improvement. I wish there is something I can do to fix the issue. This is either an issue that Bungie needs to address at some point or this is an issue with the drivers or compatibility. Is there some way to look deeper into the issue so it can be fixed in future drivers or possibly let someone at Bungie know to look into it? I tried contacting Bungie themselves via the Bungie forums and got nothing out of it.

Thank you very much.

Evening,

I'd just like to contribute to this thread with some other info as I'm having this issue with an A380 as well.

This issue is still present in the driver labeled gfx_win_101.6989 (6989?)

This issue seems to have been present since sometime in March

This issue is *not* present in the driver labeled gfx_win_101.6449_101.6256 (6449?). This driver installer is also significantly larger than other newer installers, by about 700MB. Did something change with driver packaging?

Additionally, there are other threads on the Intel forums about this.

This one where the issue remains unresolved: https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-ARC-Graphics/Destiny-2-Game-freeze-with-drivers-version-6647-and-the-recent/m-p/1678679

And this one where it seems everyone just settled on using an older driver: https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-ARC-Graphics/Destiny2-freezes-with-32-0-101-6647-Arc-770/m-p/1676934

According to the latter thread it seems that PUBG may also be effected? But aside from that it seems to just be Destiny 2 that's effected.

That aside, I've also noted lower DX12 performance using the older driver version, and in some cases places where graphics bugs happen, but aren't present in newer drivers.

I hope this information helps, and I'd like to also thank you for looking into this matter

Hey, would you happen to know if this is also effecting the B580 or the B570? Or is this an issue exclusive to Alchemist cards (A580, A380, A770 and so on)?
