EA Skate. Crashing My System At Random Intervals

At random intervals my system will completely hang and I have to hold the power button which is very upsetting almost every time i want to play the game. However, sometimes it'll freeze for a few seconds then unfreeze then prompt with a message box relating to DirectX12 In that link above, there is the MessageBox i'm talking about in the attachments. But a lot more often than not, it's a whole system hold up that requires holding the button..

My laptop is a Dell Inc. Inspiron 16 7640 2-in-1

-OS: Windows 11 Pro
-Processor: Intel Core Ultra 7 155H
-Graphics: Intel Arc Graphics
-Memory: 16GB

All drivers/software are up to date.

It can happen either in 10 minutes or after 16 hours (16 hours of gameplay is the longest it has went without doing this.

My CPU usage is fairly low (below 30%) and GPU usage generally sits between 20-45% depending on whats going on in the game, and the RAM usually sits at around 83-89%. I play on the lowest settings they offer on the game.

If you need anything else from me then feel free to ask!

also here is another post on the topic that is also pretty much what i'm going through:

Hi @RandyT_Intel

I understand that's the official recommendation, and you're technically correct.

However, the game actually runs quite well on my system despite their recommendation. Metrics look solid right up to when the random system hang/crash occurs.

That’s why I think it might still be worth investigating the issue rather than dismissing it entirely based on EA’s stated requirements.

Also my system shouldn't be completely hanging up anyways if that even was the reason. The process would just die or have artifacts or something but I wouldn't be experiencing what I've been going through.

I think it's a issue that's just surfacing on my system and others on the EA Forum (who actually do have the recommended specs and higher).

But if you don't think it's worth looking into it then I guess it is what it is and thanks for your time anyways.

Hey @RandyT_Intel,

I would like to inform you that I have the same issue and it has got nothing to do with not having a dedicated graphics card (dGPU).

Here are the specs of my Desktop:

-OS: Windows 10 (Version: 22H2, OS Build: 19045.6396)
-Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz
-Memory: Installed RAM 32,0 GB (31,9 GB usable)
-Graphics: Graphics Card Intel(R) Arc(TM) A770 Graphics (16 GB)

All drivers/software are up to date.

Could you take another look?

Thanks.

Thanks for bringing more attention to this and sharing that.

I am curious though, does it seem to happen a lot more often for you too around the Church/Block party area? If in in a particular radius of those locations, it seems like it happens a lot more often.

Just a pattern I've noticed that I'm curious if you've noticed too.

Thanks

I haven't really noticed it but I think it happens more often when I have the Upscaling Method set to None or XeSS but that could be a coincidence.

skate_map.jpg

I pulled this skate map picture from google and then edited it with a red circle of the area that i always seem to be in when the crash/freeze occurs.

I seem to be pretty safe as long as i don't enter that radius more or less. But it's not like entering said radius ramps up real time metrics on my machine or anything. Just an observation of an area i happen to be in during the moment.

If you could, it would be nice to have this confirmed by you as well...

thanks

It is possible that that area is less safe. When I launched the game and started a mission in the area, this one to be precise:

and the game crashed but this time not my entire pc, here is the crash error:

and i'll get that same popup from time to time as well but 99% of the time its a hard system crash that requires i hold the power button. very annoying.

I would also suggest making your own post to this topic as well cause I think Randy isn't monitoring this anymore after what he last said basically deeming my issue as a laptop issue even tho im like 95% sure that's not the case.
