Hello
I have a problem starting Elite Dangerous in the STEAM client. When starting the game, the shader is calculated first and then the Frontier Launcher opens. Then i click on Start with Steam. The game starts with preparing shader which is calculated to 100% and then preparing planet generation. As soon as preparing planet generation system comes up the game crashes at 0% without error message. I contacted Frontier support and after 4 emails they told me they can't help me with my problem.
So I am now contacting Intel with my problem. This game is very important to me so I hope to find help here.

Hello martinpawlak,
Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.
For me to further check this, please help provide the following details:
- Can you confirm if you are using Arc B580 or B570?
- Are you using an Intel brand Arc Graphics card?
- Was it working fine before?
- What are the last changes made in the system before the issue started?
- What are the troubleshooting steps that you tried before?
If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.
Best regards,

hello mike,
thanks for answering my post.
1+2: I have a SPARKLE Intel® Arc™ B580 TITAN Luna OC
https://www.sparkle.com.tw/en/B580-TITNA-Luna
When I bought the SPARCLE Intel Arc B580 TITAN Luna and installed it in my system, I completely reinstalled my operating system, so it was a first for the card. I completely reinstalled the native Steam client and the game as well, but it won't launch. I first contacted Frontier support, but after 10 days and about 4 mails it turned out that Frontier could not help me. That's why I wrote here in the Intel Community Forum.
Elite Dangerous starts briefly, but after the preparation of the shaders is completed and the planetary systems are to be prepared, the client closes. No error message or file is generated that could log what went wrong.
I have tried all Proton versions within Steam, the game always ends at the same point.
I hope you and the Intel Team can help me to fix this problem.
Best regards

hello mike,
no, I have no problems with other games, Elite Dangerous is the only game that crashes and since I really like playing this game I'm really sad that it doesn't work.
Ok here is what Frontier Support wrote to me:
<quote>
So you're aware, Linux is not an officially supported platform, meaning we aren't able to give you perfect advice regarding it. We can do what we can around it, but it may be we don't have all of the answers for you.
Usually this crash is to do with player's systems simply not being powerful enough. Your card is good and your system sounds good, which is why we often ask for a DxDiag report, as Windows has some error logging we can glance at. Your errors are not currently particularly helpful to us, although they're being generated by Linux which as we've said, make things a bit more difficult. It seems to us like some kind of graphics error, but we cannot be more specific than that, currently.
It could be that the game is simply not picking up the fact you have a graphics card, which is often why others would crash at this point.
As much as it may be frustrating, asking on the forums is a very good place to start, as there are lots of people who play on Linux who'll know it better than we do. Hopefully that is some clues to work towards as well.
It may be worth trying a clean nuke of your drivers again to reinstall them while the game is installed, as that may help the game recognize them
</quote>
As far as I know, Intel goes the OpenSource way with GNU/Linux, which means that the driver is implemented in the kernel. As far as I can see, the abbreviation of the driver is simply Xe.
Sadly, Intel treats Linux users very neglectfully. There is no proprietary driver, not even a control GUI to set the graphics card (lol) well, maybe in a year or never?!
My current kernel: 6.15.0-2-cachyos
My current Mesa: Mesa 25.1.1-cachyos1.3
I hope this additional Infos help u to figure out why Elite Dangerous is crashing
Best regards
Martin P.

Hello martinpawlak,
Thank you for the update.
Based on your reply, it is good that you are not having issues with other games and the game support also provided some possible cause.
I will still try to further check this. Can you try to generate the SSU logs of your system? Please refer to the link below for the download link of the SSU for Linux.
If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

hello mike,
thank you for the download Link for the INTEL System Support Utility For Linux.
I downloaded and extract the packed script to a subfolder in my Downloads Folder
<!!! For everyone who read this thread, the ssu.sh script need some packages first to fully work !!!>
CDRKIT
LSHW
NET-TOOLS
You can copy paste commands below to install packages for ARCH Users:
❯ sudo pacman -S cdrkit
❯ sudo pacman -S lshw
❯ sudo pacman -S net-tools
so here we go:

~/Downloads/IntelSSU
❯ ls
.rwxr--r-- 8,0k muli 6 Sep 2023 README
.rwxr-xr-x 124k muli 6 Sep 2023 ssu.sh
~/Downloads/IntelSSU
❯ sudo ./ssu.sh
This product is not supported on this operating system.
Would you like to try to scan? (y/n)

I'm stepping in to add my two cents.
This same issue was showing up a while ago playing the game on Windows: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000095131/graphics.html
Our dev team worked together with the game dev to fix the problem with an approach that required a driver update but also updating the game itself.
The challenge now is that the game dev does not support the game in Linux* so this is unlikely to progress further.
Can you try running the game on Windows and using our latest driver 32.0.101.6874 ?

Hello Ronald,
Thank you for the interjection.
It's nice to know that the Frontier team has been in contact with the Intel developers to solve the launch problems of Elite Dangerous. I am sure that only a joint effort can solve a problem like this for the players directly and at eye level. Most people, probably worldwide, who use a PC get along with Windows.
I have noticed for years that the way this company from Redmond dictates to users how they have to use their own PCs and even determines that hardware is outdated or takes screenshots with some AI scripts without the user's knowledge has turned me away from this corporate product for a few years now.
Perhaps Intel will at some point offer a solution for the Linux kernel to adapt the open source drivers it contains so that the workaround from the Redmond world also works in the Linux world.
Maybe you can think of a possibility after all.
All the best

I guess this can be checked internally but keep right expectations that it can take time (e.g. 3-6 months)... that is if it gets picked up by the dev team.
I know this is not the kind of info you wanted to receive but I just want to be transparent with you.
Edit: I forgot to mention - for Arc B580 graphics the only distro supported at the moment is Ubuntu 24.10 and 24.04 (Kernel 6.11). All tests and work will be done exclusively on this distro.
As soon as there is any update we'll post it here.

Hello Ronald,
Thank you for your honesty about the wait time of an internal review process.
Intel has not been long in the discrete graphics market and I have been on the team green side for years, if you know what I mean. I'm sure Intel wants to stay in this market a lot longer so it's in Intel's best interest to focus more on programs that don't work because performance tweaks can be handled with driver tweaks and patches.
But I think a complete failure when starting a program very essential. By buying this graphics card, I have also made a small statement to my circle of friends. I have no problem if a workaround takes 3-6 months, just not tackling the problem at all could reduce interest in the future and not only for me.
I would be very happy if you could keep me up to date with news about Elite Dangerous.
Thank you very much

Bro, stop ignoring the portion of your users who use Intel Iris Xe. All processors with integrated graphics from the 11th to the 13th generation are thrown in the trash with ridiculous driver problems, and even games that don't even open, and you're showing up here as if everything is fine and sweeping the problem under the rug. At least give us some answers. We just want to use our devices the way they should work. It's not my fault that the current Intel driver is so crappy that the **bleep** Microsoft Basic Video Adapter makes the game open and your driver doesn't...
