Intel Arc A750 high CPU usage on Ryzen 3 3100

Hello, I have bought the Intel Arc A750 2 days ago and the GPU arrived today. I chose to trust Intel again because it looked promisingly competitive in the GPU market and I searched high and low for possible problem for my pc, at best what I could find was simply the bottleneck of my CPU itself and the PCIE 3.0 x16 motherboard, but I wasn't that much expecting to get into the best games right away and I had plans for an upgrade in the future, maybe in a year or two.

I installed the latest stable driver before installing the latest beta driver after discovering the problem. I have also turned on the 4G encoding resizable bar in my gigabyte a320m-s2h v2 motherboard with the latest bios version installed.

This is my overall PC specs as of this time:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3100
GPU: Intel Arc A750
RAM: HyperX Fury 8GB 3200mhz (XMP enabled)

Storage: SSD Samsung 860 Evo 500GB

Motherboard: Gigabyte A320M-S2H V2

So I tried benchmarking it after the driver update and resizable bar enabled using UserBenchmarks and it showed promising results. (Link: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/62535869)

However, the actual performance wasn't looking great, the CPU utilization in my AMD CPU is about twice as high on normal use. I had a GT 1030 prior to this so I know, and for reference I tried it on the most basic game that still exist and is popular which is Roblox, there were noticeable spikes in CPU latency and the utilization of the CPU is about twice compared to when I had the GT 1030 on. I had my expectations low after that and tried it on the least demanding modern game I know of, Genshin Impact (apologies for the low standards, this game is the best game my pc could handle well at the time). The result was awful, the game was unplayable, constant freezes everywhere, any sudden moves and you will get that. It takes from 5-10 seconds until the freeze stops and the loading times are about nearly 2 minutes. The CPU usage was in an awful 87-100%, and it resulted in a lot of freezes. The RAM usage was about 84% from the previous GPU but now it's all the way to 98%.

I honestly do not think it can be blamed to the other parts as this was never an issue with the previous GPU. I have plans to add another 16GB of RAM and NVMe storage but please! Try to fix the CPU usage overall or at least towards the Ryzen 3 3100, it's making me almost cry and it's awful. You can do better than that Intel. Is there any temporary or neat solution to this? Or how long would I have to wait for this fix to come?

Hello @ Neptune

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. We would be more than glad to help you with your issue.

In order to have a better understanding of your issue, please provide me with the following:

1.      Check the Task Manager while the system is idle and check that there are no programs making high use of resources. Also please send us screenshots of the usage.

2.      Have you tested other games?

Besides the information requested before please try the following steps and reply with the outcome:

·        Based on the information you shared XMP profiles are enabled, which could cause instability, please reset your BIOS to default settings and disable XMP.

·        Remove the ARC GPU from your system, and test integrated graphics only to check if the same spikes still happen.

Best regards,

Good day sir IsaacQ,

Here's an update so far, after using the GT 1030 for a bit again, I decided to swap back to ARC A750 to check on the performance of the GPU.

1. So far the CPU utilization has subsided while on idle. Before it was at least 10%-20% but is now 5%-12%

2. I've tested it on the other games (Max Graphics NFS ProStreet [dx9] and Honkai: Star Rail [dx11]), they all showed good results (60 fps) with stable CPU utilization around 40%-50% unlike at the time I posted. I'm going to test it towards the other games (Hearts of Iron IV, Sniper Elite 4, Left 4 Dead 2).

I have disabled the XMP however I do not have integrated graphics and used the previous GPU instead, it did not have the spikes. The same goes for the previous GPU with XMP on with no spikes or stutters.

The only games that I am sure that has higher CPU utilization is Roblox (lower frames in slightly CPU intensive map compared to GT 1030) and Genshin Impact (Awful 95-100% CPU utilization)

I thought about what happened last time why it performed bad in other games and I concluded that I had my CPU utilization up in Genshin Impact for a long time that it hit an alarming 100C temperature resulting in thermal throttling of the CPU. It performed as bad in the other games (NFS Prostreet and Honkai: Star Rail) after testing it in Genshin Impact for at least 30 minutes because of the thermal throttling. So now you know how bad the GPU did to my CPU. My Ryzen CPU is still using the stock cooler.

May I know how XMP profile affect the GPU? Thanks.

I have also installed Intel Computing Improvement Program. Hopefully the next driver improvement includes more fix for my CPU although I won't be touching Genshin Impact for a while using Intel Arc because it badly made my CPU overheat.

I hope the screenshots will provide more description

Also an update, Left 4 Dead 2 is doing well with the Intel Arc A750.

Hearts of Iron IV crashes during loading before the main menu shows up, please try to fix the crash in this game as well. Thanks!

Hello @ Neptune

Thank you for your patience.

Let me tell you that after a lab where we tested Genshin Impact, we were unable to reproduce the issue.

We setup a system with Ryzen 5 3600 + 16GB of RAM and with A750 the CPU usage was consistently low when playing Genshin Impact and FPS consistently above 55 FPS even on crowded areas (refer to Frametime and FPS data attached)

Video of our lab uploaded here: https://youtu.be/OgvXQt99t8U

In this case, we suggest performing a clean OS installation just to rule out OS conflicts but otherwise think about adding more RAM as 8GB is the minimum recommended by the dev:

Sorry for the late response, I will probably open up another thread following this issue if this reply will not get noticed. I will add more RAM next month, maybe 24GB or 32GB total, as well as using NVMe storage. I will post an update next month with either a reply for this thread or a new thread with a reference to this previous thread depending on whether I will get another reply or not.

Thanks for trying to replicate the issue, I will see if the issue is fixed next month.
