New B580 flashing screen after fresh driver install

Hi there,

I’m looking for some help troubleshooting an issue with my new B580. It arrived today and I swapped out my old NVIDIA 3050 for it. I used DDU in safe mode to remove old drivers.

The computer initially booted fine after this. I only had 1 of my 2 displays working and the first thing I did after the reboot was download the intel driver for windows from the website https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/241598/intel-arc-b580-graphics/downloads.html

The first run of the driver the install failed as it said no compatible hardware was detected. Device manager showed the display adapter as Windows Basic Display Adapter. Output was working from the card as I don’t have an onboard gpu with my cpu, and the display cable was plugged into the card. Reinstalling the driver caused some screen flicker, which seemed normal. It then caused the screen to start flashing through Red, Blue, Green, White and then Black.

I tried reseating the card and the issue wasn’t fixed. I figured maybe DDU didn’t hit everything, so I reinstalled windows 11. This worked fine, and the fresh install loaded up totally ok, video output from the card worked great. I re-downloaded the intel driver again and the same issue has occurred. Restarts etc have not fixed the issue.

I am attaching video of the flashing screen. I need suggestions on further steps I can take to fix/troubleshoot.

Rebar is enabled, I have a PSU large enough, Mobo bios is the most recent version published by the manufacturer. I’m currently unable to access diagnostics etc as I don’t get video output other than the Mobo UEFI, which works fine

System Info:
CPU - AMD R7 5800X
Mobo - Asrock B550m Pro4
GPU - Arc B580 Onix Lumi
Memory - Corsair 32GB DDR4 ram

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I restored windows again. I am attaching a screenshot showing how the GPU appears in the device manager. I will try installing the driver again, but don't hold out much hope.

Edit 2: Reinstalling the driver caused the same issue again. I took a video of the detailed breakdown of the driver install. The last 2 details that appeared both read “Deleting registry key ‘Software/Intel/GFX/Internal/Audiofix’”

After that the screen went back to the flashing. The cpu etc appears to be idling so I don’t think the installation is still going, but I’ll let it run for a while to see what happens.

I managed to reboot into safe mode after a while. It looks like the device is now recognised by windows as an Arc B580. However, the intel graphics app is not detecting compatible hardware. I know this may be because I am in safe mode. However, I am getting video output from the card when in safe mode.

Hello Hkestrel,

Thank you for posting in the community. It seems that this issue might be related to your GPU. To further investigate, I have a few questions for you. Please answer the following:

  1. Have you tried older graphics driver for testing?
  2. Have you tried reinstalling your 3050 to check if it displays correctly?
  3. What type of display cable are you using?
  4. When you run your system, does the debug light on your motherboard indicate VGA?
  5. Are the fans on your GPU spinning properly?

Hi Dhanniel,

Thank you for the reply. I was trying to install the most recent version of the driver. I was using both a DP cable and an HDMI cable to different monitors.

I was able to fix the problem by replacing my HDMI cable and then changing all settings on both the PC and the monitors to disable VRR and just use a fixed refresh rate. It took some trial and error to find all settings, but I was able to resolve this issue.

Thank you!

Dhanniel M.

I understand your wanting to close the discussion, but there is still an issue.  I used the trick from Hkestrel (Thank you) but it requires me to set my manual refresh rate low on two of my three monitors.  They are all relatively new (past 2 years).   I replaced an old Nvidia 1080 which had no issue driving those same monitors faster.   I am fine with waiting for the next set of drivers, but I want to make sure that you are aware that this is still an issue that the driver folks should be addressing.   I know you are playing catchup with Nvidia, but ignoring driver issues is a sure way of losing the race.   Please let me know that your driver developers are aware of this on-going problem.

Just to clarify, you're able to use the card now, but only with a lower refresh rate on two of your monitors? And you can't use adaptive sync on any / all monitors? What if you only use one monitor, can you set that to a higher refresh rate? Specific monitor information would also be helpful, along with system specs (which are different from what Hkestrel listed, I would assume).

No, it is not working well.  I have three monitors.  An ASUS PA329CV as my main center monitor.  A Samsung S32DG502EN for my left monitor and a Samsung Odyssey G5 for my right monitor.  It only works when I drop the refresh rate to near the minimum.   Other than that it will not synchronize.   The present graphics driver is 32.0.101.6647.    The Intel software manager says that is up-to-date.   It will stabilize for a while then it will start flickering and posterizing on one or more  of the screens. Today it is my left screen.  I want Intel to know that whatever they are doing is not working yet.  I am running an intel i9 13900K.  I have a Gigabyte mother board.  Let me know if you need any  more information.  I just want a stable environment.
