Poor performance in God of War 2018

God of War 2018 runs really badly on DX11 and has possibly the worst performance of any game running on my Arc A770 16GB LE. I run the game at the highest possible settings at 1080p without FSR. I have attached an SSU report and a CapFrameX capture.

The game runs much better on my 1660ti which is far inferior to the A770. Please fix the performance of the game.

I play the steam version of the game. At the highest possible in game settings. At 1080p.

Hi @The7uphero,

Based on my checks, the motherboard BIOS appears to be outdated. Could we try updating it to version F67g, which was released on March 11, 2025, and see if it makes any difference?

I also looked into the drivers for the A770 regarding the performance issue. The latest recommendation is to update the drivers. Before you installed version 32.0.101.6989, may I ask did you use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)?

Hello!

I updated the BIOS and performance appears to be the same.

Yes I always update gpu drivers after a safe mode ddu uninstallation.

Just use dxvk (directx to vulkan).

Put this files where game .exe placed.

The only drawback is, game will run in exclusive fullscreen. Borderless not avialable.

And it will stutter during first launch (shader compilating).

DXVK used to work many months ago but suddenly any game that I use DXVK with just doesn't boot. It takes up about 100 MB of RAM and stays dormant in the background. No splash screens, no errors, nothing. If yall help me fix DXVK I will be equally as grateful as I would be with a driver update.

Here is the story. I have gtx 1050 and intel arc.
And recently i tried to install gtx 1050 to my computer. So i removed Arc without driver deinstallation
and connected gtx 1050 then installed nvidia drivers. Gtx card worked fine.
Then i removed gtx card and its drivers and connected Arc card back.
The Arc card worked fine and drivers too, but my dxvk game Assassins Creed Origins
stopped to work for unknown reason.
And the only solution is an Intel Arc driver clean reinstalation.
Maybe this helps.

I just did this and it didn't work. I uninstalled nvidia physx using DDU (along with the nvidia driver of course) and even selected clean installation on the intel installer but it still doesn't work. It still lays dormant with 12MB RAM and 0% cpu/disk/gpu usage.

Hi @The7uphero,

As I continue to investigate the issue you're experiencing with God of War 2018, I kindly ask for your assistance in gathering some additional information. This will help me troubleshoot the problem more effectively:

  1. Could you please let me know which digital distribution platform you are using to play God of War 2018?
  2. Please provide a screenshot of your current game settings. This will allow me to replicate the issue on my end.
  3. I understand there is a report of a 4-second low FPS, despite the CapFrameX results showing no stuttering. Could you specify the exact performance issue you are experiencing?
  4. You mentioned that the 1660ti runs better. Could you clarify what you mean by this?

I am requesting this information to further investigate and resolve the issue you are facing. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and will help me address your concerns more efficiently.

Regards,

Answers to the first 2 points have already been given in the initial post. I have a 1080p monitor running at 120hz and i cap my fps at 60 for all singleplayer games. GOW 2018 fails to even hit the 60fps mark often which is similar to Ghost Recon Wildlands, another game which i have personally reported for such poor performance. Highest possible settings across the board for 1080p seems like a very doable job for an Arc A770.

Point 3: FPS drops often to 35-37 when looking in certain directions, a problem that has plagued multiple games and which I have personally reported multiple times.

Point 4: The 1660ti does not go down to 35 fps when looking in the same directions and has much more consistent performance overall
