Screen Blanking on Desktop

Hello,

I have an A770 Sparkle Titan gpu and i m having blanking on all of my monitors.  the Monitor with the worst issue is Its an oled 240 hz 4k /  480 hz 1080p dual mode monitor 32GS95UE-B.AUS.

when on desktop/chrome i get screen blanking and it comes back within 1-2 seconds,  but the refresh rate is wrong on the LG.  i go into settings as you can see with attached pic i no longer have the option for 240hz on the LG.  all my monitors blank out when this happens,  but the lg is the only one that i cant get the refresh rate back without rebooting my pc.

i think it may be something to do with DSC and maybe compatibility. without dsc the monitor cant do 240hz 4k. and after the blanking it seems im limited to 95 hz which is the limit for DP2.0 with no DSC.  this is also with variable refresh enabled on monitor.  reading places there are issues with variable refresh and DSC together.

my other monitors refresh rate is fine.  this  didnt start happening until a few months back.  so not sure what update caused the issue.  cables and monitors have not changed.

Also to add i fully reloaded a fresh install of windows 11 3 days ago and it happened again a few mins ago.  32.0.101.6449 has been the only driver installed

Hello Bandit8623,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

I would like to know more about your system details to fully understand where the issue truly lies. Please confirm if this is the actual LG monitor that you have that is having the issue setting up 40 hz 4k / 480 hz 1080p: 32" UltraGear™ OLED Dual Mode gaming monitor.

Please share or confirm the following details below:

1) Since you mentioned that this issue started happening only few months back, can you recall what driver version was previously installed?

2) Please share how the displays are configured (what cable types were used, which port(s) the displays are connected). Clear photos or short video clip of the current setup will be helpful.

3) May I know what motherboard make and model us used with your SPARKLE Intel® Arc™ A770 TITAN OC Edition? Or you may simply download and scan your system using our tool, Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software, so other important details can be checked as well. When the download is complete, launch SSU.exe.

  • Scan: Check the box Everything.
  • Click Scan.
  • Review: When finished scanning, click Next.
  • Click Save (.txt). *Attach the SSU log file as you reply.

I will wait for your reply.

Hi there,

Sorry about that i initially had attached the ssu but this post got flagged for spam and i think it got lost..

Anyways

Yes that link is the monitor im having problems with.

1- im sorry i dont know what driver started the issue.

2 -  dp cable to 3 of my monitors theyh are the cables that each monitor came with.  the 32GS95UE-B , samsung G7 C32G75T , dell s2417dg.  4th scepter f24 is connected to my cpu gpu via hdmi.  i would connect all to the a770 but i cant get 4 to work on the card.  only 3 work.  card limitation ive read?  anyway i havent made any hardware changes when this issue started happening reason im pretty sure it was a driver change.

3 -  SSU attached

4- i changed the adaptive sync to off a few days ago.  im still getting the blanking (happens 1 to 2 times in a 4 hour period so not super often),  but at least the refresh rate is staying at max.

so seems like something with DSC and adaptive sync thats cauising problems. adde dpic showing adaptive sync off now.  the original post was with it on.

pic attached you can see all dp ports in use.  and while gaming i never have issues.  its when im on the desktop browsing the web.

Thanks.
Update - it's been 2 days since turning off variable refresh and the issue has not returned. So it seems to be a DSC and variable refresh rate bug.

Hello Bandit8623,

Thank you for patiently waiting. As my colleague, @JeanneteC_Intel is currently away, I will be continuing to assist you for now.

As of the moment, we are already investigating compatibility issues with LG 32GS95UE however we cannot promise a fix or a particular outcome.

I would like to verify as well if the power supply you are currently using on your system meets the minimum 600 Watts?

I look forward to your response!

Hello Bandit8623,

Thank you for patiently waiting. I would like to inform you that Intel Arc GPUs only support Adaptive Sync technology. Therefore, FreeSync won't be supported. The compatibility issues with LG 32GS95UE is still under investigation and as advised before, we cannot promise any outcome or fix as of the moment. I recommend turning off DSC for now or contact LG for additional assistance.

Hi
If I turn off dsc this limits the display to 90 hz... This is unacceptable.

Also as stated above I used to have no problems on older drivers.  This started a few months ago.

And btw do your research please. Freesync and adaptive sync are the same technology...

Gsync is the one thats a bit different either way the monitor supports both...

@RobbieR_Intel

Also intel driver support clearly states monitor is supported.  see refresh rates and shopwing compatible.

Hello Bandit8623,

Thank you for patiently waiting. To give you a scope, DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync is an addition to the DisplayPort 1.2a specification, ported from the embedded v.10 specification through a proposal to the VESA group by AMD, while DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync is an ingredient feature of a DisplayPort link and an industry standard that enables real-time adjustment of display refresh rates required by technologies like AMD Freesync. Amd FreesSync technology is a unique AMD hardware or software solution that utilizes DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync protocols to enable user-facing benefits namely; smooth, tear-free, low-latency gameplay and video.

Now, to clarify if "is VESA AdaptiveSync certification the same thing as AMD FreeSync technology certification", VESA AdaptiveSync certification may not necessarily equate to AMD FreeSync certification. AMD has a free, rigorous, and comprehensive FreeSync display certification test package which categorizes displays into three tiers - AMD FreesSync, AMD FreeSync Premium and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, if qualified, and ensures a seamless experience for AMD Radeon graphics users.

For more information regarding the said AMD Feature, please see FreeSync technology

So unless the display's VRR technology is VESA Adaptive Sync implementation over DP or HDMI 2.1 we cannot guarantee that it would work.

As of the moment, we are still investigating Compatibility Issues with the LG 32GS95UE display. As soon as we have an update regarding this, we would let you know immediately.

Hi Intel

@RobbieR_Intel

I think i figured out the flickering problems. just dont know why the A770 is not providing stable fps on desktop.. im going to include 4 videos with adaptive sync on.  flickering usually happens when there are huge fps fluctuations.  see below.   i see it mainly on darker content which is alot since i like dark mode. whenever im moving my mouse i see flickering.

first will be in dual mode with 1080p 480 hz.  you can see the monitor isnt being granted 480 hz all the time when on this webpage.  this tell me the flickering is cause by the 240/480 change.  u can see the monitor fps in top left change from 480 to 240 at times.  i have the monitor set at 480hz.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h3E0NWQq2tm_D9FOvSfCFwKIsY3g9ueU/view?usp=sharing

next on 4k 240hz mode same thing but not quite as bad but still there.  fps is dropping to 120hz at times as per the fps monitor top left. this mode it set to 240hz.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h4T05c4lg9JcCasRZA1i-_amsfK0ia7w/view?usp=sharing

another example when moving mouse and flicker. ive change polling rate to the lowest setting no change.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h7iirdlrcZfWJulaBkYMlFo9RfJSHinw/view?usp=sharing

this is valorant menu. moving mouse i can see flickering. also notice fps drop. task manager does not show cpu overload.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hAYnmTziJdXdv7Pcvy4AJEjwL0dVIUXz/view?usp=sharing

ive tried 3 diff browsers it doesnt make a difference.   i have looked at cpu usage and its below 20%.  it happens even just on desktop no browser.

have ddu drivers as well

Bandit8623_0-1738542508830.png

Bandit8623_1-1738542538053.png

this makes no change adjusting either.

Bandit8623_2-1738542729312.png

after the last 2 drivers i have not seen the screen blanking anymore,  but im getting this terrible flickering like above.

even in game menus when i move my mouse the screen flickers.  if i dont move mouse screen flickering is fine. i have 4 screens and the only one it does it with is the lg oled dual mode screen with adpative sync on.

@RobbieR_Intel

moved back a few drivers

Bandit8623_0-1738808337299.png

flickering is gone. so it seems to be a newer driver problem.  i havent use this driver long enough to test the screen blanking yet.

Hello Bandit8623, I hope this message finds you well.

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding the issue you are experiencing with your LG monitor. For now, we recommend turning off VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) on your LG monitor, as it is not VESA Adaptive Sync and we cannot guarantee that it will work properly with your current setup.

Additionally, we suggest that you report this issue to LG. They can work directly with us to address the problem, and if necessary, a panel firmware update can be developed to improve compatibility with Intel GPUs.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please let us know if you have any further questions or need additional assistance.

Hello,

as you can see from my last post the monitor works fine on your older driver.  only recently this issue happened with newer drivers.

Bandit8623_0-1738856277430.png

this driver variable refresh works.  since the newer drivers caused the issue its clearly not an LG problem.

i have contacted lg about the flickering, but its hard for me to get anywhere as the panel works on your older drivers fine.  i would appreciate you contacting them to work out a fix if thats the case?  as you can imagine getting through to regular reps there and getting issue accross is also not easy.

Just updating latest driver still same issue.  when vrr is enabled fps on desktop jumps around erratically.

Reminder Adaptive Sync worked fine on older drivers.  ive been without Adaptive Sync now for over a month.
