Hey all,
i bought a new Laptop: ThinkBook 14 G7 IML
I dont really play games other than the occasional TFT/LoL and FC25.
Right after unboxing it i downloaded these games. Both didnt work. Both with the same error. So i installed the newest driver version: still didnt work at least for League as FC25 worked. I thought it might be the game so i uninstalled and reinstalled. Problem was persistent. I have an IT friend who also couldnt figure it out after trying every possibility so i am writing you guys.
Attached my SSU and a screenshot of the error.
I wouldn't want to send the laptop back but in the next 14 days i could, would be amazing to get some sort of answer as i this is a deal breaker for me.
Even if not still thanks for helping.
The error happens after trying to load into a game. No problems in the client until you get into loading screen, which doesnt even pop out just the error instead.
If you want to replicate the order of how i came to it was: After logging in going to practice tool with or without bots and starting game. After ready it crashes. Client still allowing me to log out/exit though.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Linos

Hi lkjVayne,
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the "Could not Initialize graphics device" error you're experiencing with League of Legends on your new ThinkBook 14 G7 IML laptop. I understand how urgent this matter is for you, and I'm here to assist you in resolving the issue.
Based on the information you provided, it seems that the graphics driver version installed is 32.0.101.6790, which is outdated. To help resolve the issue, could you please try performing a clean install of the latest graphics driver version 32.0.101.6913? You can download the latest driver here.
If a clean install does not resolve the issue, you may consider using the Intel Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove any remnants of previous drivers. DDU is a tool that helps ensure a clean removal of graphics drivers, which can sometimes resolve persistent issues. More information about DDU can be found here.
Additionally, could you please provide the following information:
- Which platform or store did you download League of Legends from?
- Is the game updated to the latest version?
- Would you prefer using Quick Assist for remote troubleshooting, or a phone call for faster communication?
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to assisting you further in resolving this issue.
Best regards,
Dean R.

Hello Dean,
thank you for your quick answer its greatly appreciated.
1. i downloaded league of legends the first time through their official website: League of Legends: Herunterladen | Westeuropa
later after i tried uninstalling and reinstalling i used the client as i deleted the game through control panel. The Riot games client was still downloaded.
2. The game is updated to latest version v112.0.1 on the client and the patch is 25.14 on league and 14.8 on TFT
3. I would greatly appreciate a remote troubleshooting and or a phone call
As you told me i tried to install the latest version of the driver but it seems like it wouldn't work as even though it says it is done and it made the clean install afterwards it says up to date with the one i already had. It also says i dont have any hardware. These are Problems i had last time trying also. I made some screenshots.
I have tried uninstall and reinstall on the drivers also updating. I havent tried DDU yet.
I will try doing it with DDU now, will inform after. Again thank you very much.

@lkjVayne It seems that DDU is not the answer to all of Intel's graphics problems.
And gamers and game developers do not make a good device driver developer.

Second Update: drucer
i tried it with both it always requires me to put in my BitLocker too beforehand. It didnt work.
I am clueless at this point how i can fix any of these problems.
Mainly i just want to play some League but the other problems seem also troubling.

It sounds like the error might be related to either a conflict with the graphics driver or a system configuration issue. I’d recommend trying a clean installation of the graphics drivers and ensuring that your system is running in the recommended display settings for the game. Also, check for any updates for both Windows and the game client. If the issue persists, you could try lowering the graphics settings within the client to see if that resolves it.

Hey,
thank you for your recommendations,
have tried all of the above. Trial and Error tested all scaling all resolutions. Riot client doesn't allow you to change the ingame resolution in the client only the client resolution. And as i cant get into game well i cant change it. Clean installations always look complete but after running SSU i see that there hasnt changed anything. Also whilst installing i have very weird problems with scaling i havent found any similar reports as of now. Windows is updated to the fullest as i got it just now i have checked multiple times.
Have updated pretty much everything you could imagine BIOS, Windows, etc.
Intels updates dont work, and im having huge problems getting the laptop into safe mode for DDU. I cant imagine DDU being the solution to all, i have found multiple articles about League and Intel Arc Problems, all very similar.
Its just kinda unlucky that a good laptop (obviously not made for gaming but still) cant run a game like LoL which is a game i played on a HP work laptop from 2010.
still thank you for the recommendations.

Last Update and Solution:
Hey all,
I am not entirely sure how, but the driver update worked. I think windows was preventing it from happening. I disabled the automatic Driver Updates as recommended by Intel Customer Support.
Disable Automatic Driver Updates
Windows might be reinstalling older or incompatible drivers:
- Open Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)
- Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update
- Enable: Do not include drivers with Windows Updates
Attached the newest SSU. Which also shows an update in the driver.
Thank you to the community, the customer support and Dean.
if you would excuse me now ill go play some League.
