Diagonal-line glitching on 2D textures in X-Plane 12

This is a very strange issue, which I've been trying to fix for a while now. My hardware and software combination is quite unusual, so I would appreciate any assistance that can be given.

To preface this, my specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 8600G

RAM: 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000

GPU: Intel Arc B580

OS: CachyOS (Arch-based), latest version

Drivers: xe driver, with mesa and linux-firmware-intel installed

My PC is running Arch, which is not Ubuntu, the main distro supported by Intel themselves, so I'm using the latest xe driver for arch instead. I have already tried the i915 driver, and my issue has not been resolved.

When playing X-Plane 12 (latest version, and latest beta) there are strange diagonal lines that appear on all 2D textures. It's difficult to describe, so I've attached some screenshots:

The two top screenshots depict this issue in the menus, where you see very regular diagonal glitches. The bottom two show this error in-game, where the glitches are more erratic and move and flicker - potentially because the in-game textures are changing and moving.

I don't see this issue in any other games, whether Vulkan (like XP12) or OpenGL. Changing graphics settings doesn't appear to help.

I'm really at a loose end here. Any support would be very helpful at this point.

Noting also that I have both asked for help in the X-Plane Community Discord, where they were unable to resolve the issue, and submitted this as a bug report to Laminar Research, the creators of the game, but they have not got back to me yet, and I doubt they will for quite a while yet.

Hello HippoProgrammer,

Thank you for raising this concern with us. Upon reviewing the image you provided, I can clearly see the diagonal lines you mentioned.

To further investigate, could you please share the following details:

  • Have you tried running the game on Windows OS?
  • What is the exact driver version installed?
  • Does the issue only occur in X-Plane 12?
  • Where did you download the game from?

To further assist you, I kindly request that you download and execute the Intel System Support Utility (SSU) in order to provide me with a complete system specification, which will enable me to assist you in reviewing your system information.

When the download is complete, launch SSU.exe.

1. Scan: Check the box Everything.

2. Click Scan.

3. Review: When finished scanning, click Next.

4. Click Save.

To answer your questions:

1. Yes - I used to use Windows 11, and there the game was running flawlessly without these diagonal glitches. I was always using the latest WHQL certified Intel Arc drivers.

2. I am unsure at this moment as I am not at my PC. I can get you the precise version number later if needs be, but it will be the latest version of the 'xe' driver provided in the mainline Linux kernel (version 7.0.3-1).

3. Correct.

4. Steam.

As per your request to download your Support Utility, I am unable to natively run the SSU as it is a Windows executable. Could you please confirm whether it is OK to run this tool through Wine or a similar compatibility layer, or whether I can manually provide the requisite system information to you?

Thanks,

HippoProgrammer

I am now at my PC.
To answer what driver version I am using - I'm using the xe driver from the Linux kernel, version 7.0.3-1-cachyos.

I have also located the copy of the SSU for Linux instead. I have attached the output of this tool for you below - please let me know if you require any further information.

Hello HippoProgrammer,

Thank you for your response, and I apologize for previously providing the incorrect SSU link, as it was intended for Windows.

To proceed with further investigation, could you please generate and share an SSU report using the Intel® System Support Utility for the Linux* Operating System? You may download the appropriate version of the tool and run it on your system to collect the required information.

Once completed, kindly send the report so we can continue with the analysis.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I have already done so, but thank you for the link. The report is attached to this message (community.intel.com/t5/Intel-Arc-Discrete-Graphics/Diagonal-line-glitching-on-2D-textures-in-X-Plane-12/m-p/1746651#M35487), but for clarity I will attach it again to this message.
