Severe VRAM Leak Issue with Intel Arc B580 GPU in "Broken Arrow" Game

I'm running into a major problem with my Intel Arc B580 while playing Broken Arrow. There's a clear VRAM leak that makes the game unplayable after some time due to extreme stuttering

Here's the exact issue:

VRAM Usage Constantly Increases: During a Broken Arrow match, the VRAM usage on my B580 steadily climbs higher and higher the longer I play. It never levels off.

Happens on LOWEST Settings: This occurs regardless of graphics settings. Even with EVERYTHING set to LOW or MINIMUM, the VRAM usage keeps growing throughout the match.

VRAM Stuck After Match: When the match finishes and I return to the game lobby/main menu, the high VRAM usage DOES NOT decrease. It remains stuck at that inflated level.

Hoping for a driver fix thanks~

Hello Catgray,

Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.

For me to further investigate this issue, please help provide the following details:

  1. Can you share some videos and screenshots of the issue?
  2. What is your game launcher for the game Broken Arrow?
  3. Aside from the VRAM, are you also having issues in the game?
  4. Please help generate the SSU logs of your system. Kindly refer to the link below for the steps.

hi Michael

Thank you for your response.

I run Broken Arrow through Steam.

I have prepared some screenshots and a video to demonstrate the VRAM leak issue. Before starting this match of Broken Arrow, I set almost all graphics settings to LOW/MINIMUM and had virtually no other software running.

This screenshot shows the VRAM usage when I first entered the game lobby.

This screenshot shows the VRAM usage at the very beginning of a match

Catgray_1-1750402750088.png

This screenshot shows the VRAM usage during the late stages of the same match. As you can see, it had already nearly exhausted all 12GB of VRAM

This screenshot shows the situation after I finished the match and returned to the lobby. You can see the VRAM usage only decreased slightly but remained far higher than when I first entered the lobby

This screenshot/video segment shows the situation when I started a new match immediately after the previous one. The VRAM usage exceeded 12GB right from the start. It continued to climb rapidly as the match progressed, and my frame rate dropped to an unplayable level.

Catgray_4-1750402884593.png

At 13.6GB of VRAM usage , the GPU was forced to use 1.6GB of Shared GPU Memory. At this point, my frame rate had plummeted to single digits, often dropping to just 1 or 2 frames per second (FPS) — and this occurred even though the battle was still in its early stages and not particularly intense.

Catgray_5-1750402904623.png

This severe performance degradation happens even with almost all settings on LOW. In fact, if I set even just one or two settings to MEDIUM, it becomes virtually impossible to complete a match normally due to the stuttering.

Additionally, during my second match , I encountered flashing ground textures. I'm unsure if this is directly related to the VRAM leak or a separate issue; I have recorded a short video clip of this. Also, in past gaming sessions, I have experienced noticeable texture corruption where building textures turned into strange colors, although I did not encounter it this time and currently have no screenshot/video of that specific issue.I will upload a video demonstrating this specific scenario as an attachment.

Before coming here to report, I diligently checked Steam reviews, video reviews, and forum discussions related to Broken Arrow. While there are comments mentioning the game being demanding on GPUs and having high VRAM usage in general, I did not find reports of such a pronounced and severe VRAM leak occurring on other brands of graphics cards. Specifically, I compared with cards of similar performance levels to the B580, such as the RTX 4060. While their users also complain about poor game optimization, they do not report this specific issue (continuous VRAM increase without release leading to exhaustion and unplayable stuttering). Furthermore, I did find another report from a user with a B580 who was unable to continue playing Broken Arrow due to what appears to be the same problem. Therefore, I believe these issues are indeed related to the Arc B580.

The SSU log file has also been uploaded as an attachment.

thanks for your help

I confirm this happens to me also in Broken Arrow. I just purchased the card so I have not test it thoroughly with other games but after a game or two frame rate drops to 5-7 fps. Good thing is that if you disconnect in multiplayer, you have 5 minutes to reconnect, so after this fps issue happened to me, I restarted the game and picked it right from the same point and everything ran smoothly.

Hello Catgray,

Thank you for the update.

I reviewed the SSU logs and I can see that you have the latest BIOS and Graphics drivers.

However, can you try to re-install the latest driver using DDU method and check if the issue will improve.

Please refer to the links below for the steps and the latest driver:

hi Michael

I have uninstalled the drivers using DDU and installed the latest drivers. After playing two rounds of the game, I confirmed that there is still an issue with VRAM usage. When I remained in the lobby after the second round, the VRAM usage had already reached 11GB, compared to only 6GB when I first entered the game. Therefore, I still cannot fully complete a third round.

Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to your reply

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your response. To reproduce this issue, you only need to set the graphics preset to "Low" in the image settings—no need to adjust other individual quality settings separately. After that, simply start a multiplayer match, and the issue should occur. The VRAM usage will clearly demonstrate the situation I described. Based on my experience, if you play through each full match, the frame rate will drop to unacceptably low levels by the second match—or at the latest, by the third—due to excessive VRAM usage.

If you'd like to encounter the issue more quickly, you can set the preset to "Medium" or higher. In my testing, when the preset was set to "Medium," I was almost never able to complete a full match without the issue occurring.

Since I’m using a translator to communicate with you, I’ll also attach a screenshot to avoid any ambiguity regarding the specific settings I’m describing.

I look forward to your reply.
Thank you~

Hello Mike,

I have a similar problem regarding Broken Arrow.  Recently I build new setup based on B850 Aorus MB with R9 9900X as well as B580 Limited Edition. The game runs smooth on ultra settings but after a few minutes in multi there is some serious VRAM leak.

What's more after VRAM leak I need to close the game via Task Manager and clear the AppData folder the restore normal function.

After some research I found  out that the publisher is aware of current issue but it would be great to get some drivers support or something from You.

Best regards,

Mateusz

Hello Catgray,

I hope this message finds you well.

For me to try and simulate this issue in our lap, please provide the CapFrameX results. This will allow me to analyze the game's behavior, including FPS, stuttering and sensor data. Kindly generate a minimum of 3 minutes of gameplay or more so we can check if CapFrameX captures VRAM usage and any potential leakage.

You can find the steps and how to generate the JSON file in the link below:

Need help? Reporting a bug or issue with Arc GPU? - PLEASE READ THIS FIRST! - Intel Community

Lastly, please help create a new/separate thread for other issues, such as graphics glitches/"texture corruption". This will enable us to offer tailored suggestions for each issue and address them individually, minimizing confusion. Once done, please provide the link of the new thread.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your reply. Today, I saw the update announcement for Broken Arrow on Steam, stating that there will be an update on July 7th, which will fix the memory leak issue. I'm not sure if this will also improve the VRAM leak problem. However, since the nature of the problem might change with the update, I think it would be more appropriate to wait until after this update to see if the issue is resolved. As for the texture corruption issue, we can also wait until July 7th. What are your thoughts?

Looking forward to your input.
Thank you!

Hello Catgray,

Thank you for the update.

If they made that announcement, there is also a possibility that the issue is with the game.

Let's try to wait if there will be changes or improvements after their update.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.
