Source Filmmaker - DirectX 9.0

Hello, anyone who reads this.

I use a steam software called "Source Filmmaker." SFM for short. This is an animation program that requires a graphics card called "DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 3.0". Every time I start the program, an alert appears that tells me i have an unsupported graphics card. The alert is listed below labeled "error message.png". Now SFM is some sort of "old tech" and I don't know much on how to fix this bug as there's some visual bugs and missing features that are too important to go without. I tried getting help on steam discussions, but it didn't help much.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello @falconstar-inc!

Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing that error message with us. It’s completely understandable how frustrating those "old tech" bugs can be, especially when you’re losing out on important features like lighting and shadows!

To help us figure out the best way to get your software running smoothly again, could you please provide a few quick details?

  • Your Graphics Card Model: Could you let us know which graphics card your computer uses ?
  • Laptop or Desktop: Are you currently working on a laptop or a desktop computer?
  • Operating System: Which version of Windows are you currently running?
  • Recent Changes: Did these visual bugs start appearing after a recent update, or has this been happening since you first installed SFM?

Also, please share your SSU logs as well. You can download the SSU tool using the link below:

Intel® System Support Utility for Windows*

Note: While generating the SSU report, please make sure to uncheck the “Networking” option.

Once we have these details, we can dive deeper into a solution tailored specifically for your setup. We really want to help you get back to animating without those pesky errors!

Thank you so much for your time and for working with us on this.

Warm regards,

Manas Sharma

Hello @falconstar-inc!

Greetings from Intel Customer Support,

Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support.

After reviewing the information shared, we understand that while launching Source Filmmaker (SFM), you are receiving an “unsupported graphics card” warning message along with visual issues within the application.

Based on the official Source Filmmaker system requirements, the application specifies support for the following graphics hardware:

  • NVIDIA GeForce 200 series card or better
  • AMD Radeon 3000 series card or better

We would like to inform you that your system is using Intel® UHD Graphics 620 integrated graphics on a Dell Latitude 3590 laptop. While your processor, memory, and operating system meet or exceed the minimum requirements, the application’s officially listed graphics requirements reference dedicated NVIDIA and AMD graphics solutions. Due to this, older DirectX 9-based applications such as Source Filmmaker may not properly recognize or validate Intel integrated graphics, which can result in unsupported graphics warnings, missing features, or rendering anomalies.

Additionally, your Intel® Core™ i5-8250U processor belongs to a discontinued product family.

Thank you for trusting Intel with your business. As with all good things, your product has reached the end of its interactive technical support life. However, you can find Intel® product recommendations at Intel Community forums and additional information at the Discontinued Products website. It is our pleasure to continue to serve you with the next generation of Intel innovation at Intel.com.

At this stage, we will proceed with closing this inquiry for now. However, if you still require assistance or have any additional questions, please feel free to submit a new request, and we will be happy to assist you, as this thread will no longer be monitored.

Best regards,

Roy,

Intel Customer Support Technician
