Moved to SCS and can not un-provision machines from SCCM

Hi All,

SCCM 2012 was set up in our environment for some time and was provisioning machines that had the correct version of amt but due the hit and miss way it was working we have decided to move to SCS in database mode. I recently got SCS up and running and with help from this forum it is working to provision all test machines targeted. My problem stems from a  number of devices (around half) at our test site that were provisioned by sccm. I figured it would be as easy as selecting to select 'Remove Provisioning Data'  from sccm before proceeding with SCS to re provision but that has not been the case. Checking the logs on the OOB service point I get the following logs: (I have attached the only bit that seems relevant)

ERROR: Invoke(get) failed: 80020009argNum = 0
Description: A security error occurred
Error: Failed to get AMT_SetupAndConfigurationService instance.
Error: Can NOT get provisioning state from target device. (MachineId = 16781530)

Is this maybe occurring due to the install of SCS and its integration with SCCM prior to removing the provisioning data from sccm? 

Any help or insights would be great :)

I gather from   ERROR: Invoke(get) failed: 80020009argNum = 0 //Description: A security error occurred 
that you are not really connecting to the client.  What is your password setting? Have you tried the default (original) password setting to see if the error changes?

Thanks Colleen. I was thinking it was a password problem also however the provisioning account section in sccm under OOB Management is fully populated with all accounts and that has not changed. My understanding is that SCCM stores hashed passwords for all devices in its database based on the original MBex password set (could be wrong). Its based on this I was wondering if setting up SCS is somehow preventing SCCM from un-configuring?

You might want to take a look at Blair Muller's blog on integrating SCCM with SCS:  http://blogs.bamits.com.au/2012/09/integrating-sccm-2012-with-scs-81.html

Sounds like a certificate issue - or something is keeping you from accessing AMT.

If all you want to do is take SCCM off your systems - you should be able to clear the cmos and start fresh using SCS (how many systems do you have?)  Some BIOS have an option to disable AMT and if you select that option, reboot and then turn it back on, it will effectively put the system back into factory settings.

Hi, 

The fleet is 4,500 however this issue is affecting around 400 devices at various sites. Based on how far they are spread out it makes it difficult to take the BIOS approach unless I have no other option :/

In this case I am trying to run another discovery and as mentioned the device Status in SCCM is 'Provisioned'

Can you please clarify - is this with just one client or multiple? If it's one - it looks like the ME needs time to wake up before making communication.  Some information on this here.

Hi Colleen. 

Apologies for the confusion. 

This are 400 devices in this state out of a fleet of 4500.  They are currently provisioned via SCCM however now that we are moving to SCS the idea was to unprovision all devices then re-provision into SCS. The client's believe they are provisioned in admin mode and sccm reflects the same however I am unable to do anything with them (KVM, Discovery, Power, Unprovision etc). Here is the full log when I attempt to unprovision one of the 400 devices in this state.

Can you clarify what version(s) of AMT (and of SCS) that you are using?

Can you try any other reports like just checking provisioning state or other asset?
