"While I am plugging in a thumb drive or, anything else for that matter, the device looses the connection and regains it intermittently while just slightly moving the USB plug."
Have there been any updates / solutions to this? May it be a production issue?

If after trying the steps suggested on the thread you provided previously the problem remains, then the next thing to do will be to replace the Intel Compute Stick.
If the unit is under warranty, we recommend contacting Intel® Customer Support in your region.
