Does Intel Python runs on AMD Opteron Processor?

Intel Python distribution was successfully installed on a machine operating with an AMD Opteron Processor  running under Ubuntu 16.04. The Intel Python crash when importing numpy as shown below:

aeternam@salva:~$ python
Python 3.6.2 |Intel Corporation| (default, Aug 15 2017, 16:14:26) 
[GCC 4.8.2 20140120 (Red Hat 4.8.2-15)] on linux

So, I am wondering whther Intel Python works on Opteron processors?

The problem is most likely some unexpected combination of supported ISA. Please try

 

gdb python

run

import numpy

And do "x/i $pc" when it crashes and show us the output.  Also the output of 'cat /proc/cpuinfo'

Hi Robert,

gdb is not being helpful. The output I am getting is not related to the intel python installed in the system (see below).

In case it helps, I am also attaching the file intel_python_dump.txt with the output from strace python.

After you type 'gdb python', you have to type 'run' to start python, then you can 'import numpy' to see the error

Hi Sergio,

Intel Python requires a CPU that has SSE 4.2 instruction support. You can check if your linux system has it by doing:

cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep sse4_2

Opteron processors from ~ 2012 have it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Opteron_microprocessors

Thanks Robert. That seems to be the problem. The opteron I am using for this project only has sse and sse2. Fortunately the Python Anaconda distribution works fine in such processor.
