Dear Steve:

I realize you probable groan internally when you see a messge from me. If it is any consulation, so does my wife.

I went to the Intel Folder on the Start menu to load the latest V6 program using the automatic update and it took me to the Intel website, but gave me the C++ compiler instead of Fortran.

Without reading the fineprint I downloaded and installed the file and then could not get it to accept the license.

Once I realized my mistake it was an easy fix.

Thought you might be interested.

If it is any consolation, it does this to me too. I'll have this looked into - thanks.

Dear Steve:

A very famous Doctor was once quoted as saying that and I paraphrase "If you solve all the problems of the world there will be nothing to complain about and then no-one will be happy anymore."

The developers report that this problem is due to a fundamental design flaw in the "Check for Update" tool. This is planned to be replaced with an "update manager" in a future release and the current tool won't be fixed. I recommend not using the "Check for Update" tool and instead look for the email from Intel about product updates, or log in to the Intel Registration Center monthly (or less depending on your preferences) to check for new updates.
