CAn I delete download files using explorer?

I need to release space on my boot-partition and find a \\Downloads\\ folder in
c:\\program files\\Intel\\ containing in excess of 1.3 Gbytes. Can I delete these files, or must some be kept in order to uninstall earlier compiler versions such as 11.0 Pro 11.1 Pro?
I am presently using XE composer in VS 2005.
