Can't Load Avisgrid ActiveX - Array Visualizer - Compaq Fortran

I was hoping to have Intel Fortran, but that has to wait 'til next fiscal year, so for now I need to get Compaq Visual Fortran, Ver6.6 with Array Visualizer 1.6going on a newer computer.....

When I try to run Array Visualizer, I get an error that says:

"Fatal Error! Can't load AvisGrid ActiveX control!"

I've tried finding this 'AvisGrid ActiveX control', but I haven't found much about it online. What do I need to get to get rid of this error and get Array Visualizer running? Get this AvisGrid ActiveX? Find a driver?

I had no problem installing and running CVF with Array Visualizer on a Windows 2000 computer, but the newer one computer is Windows XP.

The CVF runs fine on the Windows XP computer. It's just the Array Visualizer that fails.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. My local tech support does not any any solutions.

I unregistered avisgrid.ocx and avis2d.ocx. (Strange thatthe message says itsuccessfully unregistered avisgrid when it wouldn't register it)

I removed ArrayVisualizer with Add/Remove programs in Control Panel

Then I reinstalled ArrayVisualizer (ver. 1.6).

I get the same error - 'unexplained fatal error' when I try to use ArrayVisualizer from CVF and 'Can't Load AvisGrid ActiveX control' when I double click on AVIEWER.EXE in the ArrayVisualizer /bin directory.

Still puzzled.

The "unregistered" message simply means that it called the DLL/OCX "unregister" routine and that it returned success. This is normal, even if it is not registered.

You might try this for grins. Uninstall AV. On your first CVF disc, look for the installer for the "Array Viewer" and install that. See what happens.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I don't see any installer for the "Array Viewer" on the first CVF disk. Is there a particular file or setting that I should look for? The installation for CVF 6.6 operates all on its own it seems and I didn't see any options for Array Viewer in the custom set-up. For installing ArrayVisualizer, I just put in that disk and it has its own setup routine. The only connection between it and the CVF install is that AV asks for the same product key for CVF.

I still haven't heard back from my local tech-support. There is possibly an issue with me computer not being assigned the right permissions - I had to call them to fix the permissions just to install CVF because those weren't set right. Perhaps they missed something.

I was out for a week and am just getting back to this......

I do have news; not a solution yet, but more information.

One of the local tech people here tried installing ArrayVisualizer on another XP machine (that he had full admin on, which I'm supposed to have on my machine)just in case that was the problem. It installed and worked fine.

It appears that there are limitations on my use of ActiveX controls on my computer. There aren't supposed to be on mydeveloper account, but apparently something got missed. There is a long, sordid, twisty tale of massive unhappiness with the Navy-Marine Corp Intranetbehind this that I don't think you'll be able to help with.

So, the short answer is that I need to find out what the problem is with the permission settings on my computer and I'll have to go back to the help-line to get it fixed.

Thanks for looking into this.

You may want to check your security settings in Internet Explorer, as these affect loading of ActiveX controls.
