I installed Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2016 for Windows.
I want to create a file code.f but can only create files or code.for code.f90
I followed instructions
To use the Intel® compiler:
Microsoft Visual Studio * 1.Launch.
2.Select File> New> Project.
3.In the New Project window, select a project type under the Intel (R) Visual Fortran Compiler.
4.Select a template and click OK.
Please help, thanks

.f files are recognized by IVF as fixed format files. You can use .for instead.
If you have free format code, then you need to use .f90.
Fixed format code begins the main code lines from column 7, and ends before column 72 (Comments and label numbers can be in columns 1-5). Free format code can start anywhere on the line.

You don't need to convert. As David says, Intel Fortran handles .f files just fine - as long as they are indeed fixed-form source (what you are calling Fortran 77).
Yes, the new project wizard will not suggest .f as a file type but you can change the file type if you want.
