How to get Intel Fortran Studio (!) 2013 SP1 Update 5

Hi,

in my company we have some IF Studio 2013 and some IF Composer 2013 installed.

I've updated the Composers XE 2013 to SP1.5.239

Now I'm searching for SP1 Update 5 for the Studio-versions, but in the Intel-download-area I can only find SP1 update 3.

I assume the the Studio-Update is just a bundling of the updates of the tools it consists of.

Question: is it save to update a Studio-installation with the Composer-Update?

best regards

Tobias

There hasn't been an update of the other tools in Fortran Studio. Yes, it is safe to install the Composer update on top of Studio - I do this all the time.

Hi Steve,

thanks for your answer.

I tried to install the Composer-update on a Studio-machine, but now I've got the problem that my license-file (*.lic) for the IF-Studio is not accepted as license for the IF-Composer (though the Composer is a proper subset of the Studio).

I don't know (and don't want to test on my computer) what happens, when I try to update a Studio by installing the Composer with an evaluation license.

By the way: Why doesn't Intel always provide a Composer and a Studio update at the same time. (Just bundling the Studio with current version of Advisor, Inspector tec.)

best regards

Tobias

PS: Nice new photo of you!

I don't see how a studio license would not be accepted by Composer, as this is also something I do a lot. I looked at the licenses you had available and the one current under your name should work for both. Don't give me the full serial number, but what are the last three serial number characters of the license you're trying to use? And you are trying to install by license file, not serial number, right?

It appears to be safe to install a compiler update onto a Parallel Studio installation; as Steve said, we do it all the time.  However, I have then encountered problems with later Parallel Studio updates which can be avoided by explicitly removing everything which is to be updated.

In my views of registrationcenter.intel.com it shows the individual updates as sharing the Parallel Studio license, so I don't think there is a problem with the license.  If the Parallel Studio license expires and a still-valid individual compiler license is used to install that component, I think trouble can occur with the other components.

On timing of Parallel Studio updates, I think that if we knew the full update would come within a week or two (as it sometimes does), we would not always rush to update individual components.

The serial number of my license-file I'm using is: ****-*****7M8  (should be the same as the one registered on my name)

It's valid up to Jan. 2016 and I successfully installed "f_studio_xe_2013_sp1_update3_novsshell_setup.exe" using that license, but when I specify this license for "w_fcompxe_2013_sp1.5.239.exe" it is rejected with the message "The license file provided is invalid"

Are you entering the serial number or using the license file? I could believe that entering the serial number might not work, but if you say you have a license file, or you have the license already in the Licenses folder, it ought to work.

Please do the following. Open a command prompt window and type:

set INTEL_LMD_DEBUG=C:\Temp\composer.txt

then from that prompt, run the install EXE. When (if) the license check fails, send me the composer.txt file to steve.lionel at intel.com (don't post it here.)

Problem solved - support had been renewed but the license file on the system not updated, so it would not allow anything built after January 10 to install. Updating the license file was the solution.

Steve solved the case!

My license was renewed but I didn't download the updated license file from the license manager!

Thanks a lot

As to why we don't provide larger suite updates even if some components don't change - there is significant extra effort to package and test each install. But this will probably be less of an issue in the future as we move to more modular installs.
