I want to uninstall the 11.1 edition and install the XE. I think I did wrong by first uninstalled that vs2008 shell, then I can't uninstall the intel fortran. What can I do to uninstall the Fortran?

You can keep the old license file around OR you can move it out of the way. I would not delete it, but rather copy it to a backup directory.

On 32bit Windows systems, It is stored in folder c:\Program Files\Common Files\Intel\Licenses\ For 64 bit x64 Windows versions, same path but c:\Program Files (x86)\...

If you have the .lic license file for the new compiler, copy it to that Licenses\ folder.

I suspect you may have purchased a license renewal. If that is the case, here are instructions on how to apply it to your exisiting license.

It sounds like you have uninstalled 11.1 and now just need to install the Intel Visual Fortran Composer XE. It does contain VS2008 shell. Can you let us know if you are having problems with the install at this point?
