IA-32 Subset Packages for Smaller Downloads

For the upcoming 9.0.028 update, we're trying something new in an attempt to address a common complaint - that our download packages are too large. In addition to the regular "full" package, which contains compilers and tools for all three platforms, we will also offer an IA-32-only subset package which will contain only the compilers and tools meant for building IA-32 applications on IA-32 systems. These packages will have _ia32 in the filename, for example, l_fc_c_9.0.028_ia32.tar.gz.

The subset package contains the IA-32 compiler and IA-32 Intel Debugger. It does not include the compilers for Intel EM64T or Intel Itanium.

This is an experiment and a first step towards making it easier to download our compiler products, and we'd appreciate your comments and observations. You can reply here or send comments to Intel Premier Support as you choose. We have some other ideas we are looking at for the longer term, but this was something we could implement quickly and which we thought would provide a significant benefit.

Depending on customer feedback, we may extend this concept to packages specifically for the other platforms, and to further modularize the downloads.

It is available for customers with support in Intel Premier Support File downloads. I see that it is not listed under Limited Support - I'm not sure why and I will ask that it be added.
