IVF - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600 pprocessor

Steve,

The specification for my next computer says processor:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2,4 Ghz BOXEDSocket AM2 Dual-Core.

OS will be Windows Vista Home Premium.

I will expect IVF10.0+VS2005 to run troublefree.

Do you have any comments?

Best regards

Reidar

Comments? What, other than that you showed a regrettable lapse of judgement in choice of processor? :-)

IVF 10 will run fine on the Athlon and Vista. You can use /QxW for optimization. If that particular Athlon model supports SSE3 instructions (I don't know), you can use /QxO instead.

For Vista, you'll want to install VS2005 SP1 and the Vista Compatibility update for VS2005 - links to both are in the IVF installation guide. Be sure to uninstall the Fortran integration before installing the VS updates. You'll also need to set VS to "Run as administrator" - again, see the compiler installation guide.

Thanks Steve, I got your hInt(el) :-).

To establish the Fortran environment I hope to skip the time consuming installation with the disks and go directly to the updates as follows:

1) Install VS Service Pack 1.

2) Install IVF version 10.0.026.

In my opinion IVF10.0.026 with the Premium Partner Edition of Visual Studio is an important step forward for FORTRAN developers. But if Intel wants to convince, Intel must be able to offer Fortran users an adequate developing environment that also include a resource editor.

Best regards,

Reidar
