I am a new user for fortran. I amgetting theIntelfortran compiler for windows. There are kinds of packages. But is there any one which can be used without Microsoft Visual Studio? If not, does it mean I have to buy Microsoft Visual Studio also?

Thanks for your answers.

Intel Visual Fortran Compiler Professional Edition for Windows is self-sufficient and does not require an extra purchase. An exception is the Student license variant which requires that you have obtained and installed Visual Studio elsewhere (usually, Students have access to this for free or at very low cost.) Commercial and Academic licenses include all necessary Visual Studio pieces.

The trial version I downloaded today needs to install Visual Studio. That's why I asked this question.Thank you for solving my question.

Right. Because we pay a royalty to Microsoft for the bundled Visual Studio, we can't include it in trial versions. As stated on the first page you go through for the trial request, you can get a free 90-day trial of Visual Studio 2008 from Microsoft to be used while you are evaluating Intel Visual Fortran. As the page also says, at the end of the trial period you can uninstall VS2008 and use the bundled VS2005 with your purchased Intel Visual Fortran, or buy a license for VS2008 and use that with the Fortran compiler.

A future version of Intel Visual Fortran will include an environment based on Visual Studio 2008.
