Will Visual Fortran 11.1 and Visual Studio .NET 2003 install and run under Windows 7 without any problems orwill I need to upgrade something?
To migrate, do I first need to uninstall these from the existing computer to allow them to be installed on the new computer?
Thank you,
Bruce

Intel license allows Visual Fortan to be installed on more than one machine simultaneously- just need to license file / number to install.
Microsoft license for VS is for a single machine only. If you are to have two copies installed, you need two licensed copies. I think the upgrade to IVF 12 requires an upgrade to VS2010, so it may be time to consider upgrading VS with the change of machine. I'm still on XP, but have upgraded to VS2010 to keep up with IVF.
Regardins VS, note that unless you are doing mixed language compilation, you can use the bundled version of VS2010 with IVF on your new machine, without buying a separate MSVS license.

David

ifort 12.1 no longer supports VS2005. VS2008 or VS2010 (with service packs) are fine. If you wish to continue with 11.1, you should use 11.1.056 or later, but VS2010 will not be supported.
A table of Windows/VS/intel compiler compatibility was given on this forum earlier in the week.

I am concerned by your statement "ifort 12.1 no longer supports VS2005".
I have VS2005 and have Intel Visual Fortran Composer XE 2011 Update 6 Integration for Microsoft Visual Studio* 2005, 12.1.3514.2005, Copyright (C) 2002-2011 Intel Corporation installed and running OK.
What is the implication of your statement above for my IVF compiler?
Am I forced to either install VS>2005 or forego updating my IVF 12.1 compiler from now on?
Regards
Anthony

I would take the statement of non-support to indicate that ifort and icl 12.1 under VS2005 are no longer tested, as they have to be tested with VS2008 and VS2010. I have no cause to complain about reduced icl performance and linking problems such as sorting out .pdb and having to specify (in my own peculiar setup) the specific VS2005 library/linker path. So it may be the icl 12.1 rather than the ifort which isn't optimum under VS2005.
From this, I suppose ifort 12.1 is worth a try under VS2005, particularly if you don't care about icl.
Generally speaking, I find better MSVC performance in VS2008 (with packs) or 2010 than 2005; I'm just saying that I didn't see unexpected deficits in MSVC 8 due to linking together with ifort 12.1.1.

TimP,
Because of the cost of upgrading, I would prefer to continue to use 11. 1 for the present time, but my license only allows through 11.1 Update 4 (11.1.054). You indicate I need to use 11.1.056 or better. Did you mean 11.1.054?
If I understand correctly, to use IVF 11.1 natively in Windows 7 and x64, I would either have to use the VS shell which comes with IVF 11.1 or purchase the retail version of either VS2005 or VS2008 but not VS2010. I need to be able to use the dialog editor that comes with the retail version of VS, so I guess using the shellwill not be an option for me.
Alternately, it sounds like I can use my existing IVF 11.1 and VS 2003 if I run them under the XP Mode (which myWindows 7platform does have). Is this correct? You indicate that thereare drawbacks with using XP Mode. Are there additionaldrawbackswith XP Mode other than not being able to run IVF as 64-bit?
I could not locate the table of Windows/VS/intel compiler compatibility to which you referred. Can you give me a hint as to which thread itmight belocated in?
Thank you,
Bruce

You're right, according to that, 11.048 or later are suitable for running with Win7, and I got confused due to the linux and Windows version numbers being different.
If you're attempting XPM in order to use VS2003, of course the lack of X64 support is not an issue. I've seen comments about XPM having performance issues, although you would think it should at least match an older computer. I've used it very little, in part because it works on only one of my installations, so I'm no expert.

Are you sure? The release notes that I have for 12.1.1 indicate (under system requirements) that VS2005 is still supported. Another note later in the same section then suggests that support for VS2005 will be removed in a future major release.
