Hi everyone,

I am developing Abaqus UMAT in my graduate study. And I need to buy a Fortran to compile the UMAT code. So I may need Intel Visual Fortran Complier 11.1. I hope to buy the Intel® Software Development Suite Student Edition for Windows* OS Single User.  But I am really confused when I read the instructions on the ordering page. I have following questions:

1. Do I need to buy Microsoft Visual Studio before I ues fortran compiler? I downlowded an Intel Parellel Studio XE 2013 and found I could not use it. I guess it might be because I did not have Microsoft Visual Studio . Am I right? Can I get Visual Studio in the above student suite?

2. I want to  buy  a single-user license. But I cannot understand what it means. I will use it on my own computer. But I may run several Abaqus job with UMAT at the same time, and every job need the Fortran compiler. If I am holding a single-user license, can I accomplish this?

My advisor will pay for these softwares, and I need to know how many softwares I need to buy and how much they are.

Thank you for your helps.

For the Student suite, yes, you must have separately obtained and installed Microsoft Visual Studio. Typically students have that available for free or at very low cost. Intel Parallel Studio XE does not include Microsoft Visual Studio. Note that it needs to be Professional Edition or higher of Visual Studio, not an "Express Edition".

The Single User license means that only one person (that is, you), can use the compiler. You can use the compiler as many times as you want on as many systems as you want. We don't place any restrictions on running applications except that for a Student license, you are not allowed to distribute applications to anyone else.

Thanks for your replies.

There are two conditions. One is Abaqus. You need one license for each job you would run. If you run two jobs at the same time, you need two license, even you run it on the same computer. Another one is like Microsoft word. After you get it activated, you can open as many windows as you can at the same time. My question is focusing on the same time.

If I understand right, Fortran can work like the second condtion. Am I right?

Yes, for example, a single user license for ifort will work in parallel make mode.

Hello,

I wish to buy the Intel fortran 11.1 to work with abaqus. I tried the 1 month trial version before, it worked fine for me and it is expired now. Can you tell me that whether you offer student edition for the same version? I wish to use it for a single machine only. If it is available, will it work same as the previous one I installed as trial version?

Thanks in advance.

Satish,

We do offer the Intel Software Development Suite Student Edition, US price is $129, that includes everything in Intel Parallel Studio XE 2015 Professional Edition. Once you buy this and register the serial number, you can download older versions by following the instructions here.

I will comment that 11.1 supports only VS2005 and VS2008, which can be a problem on newer versions of Windows. I don't see any good reason why you should need to use such an old version with Abaqus.
