Replacing Trial VS2015 pro with VS 2016 community edition+Intel Composer

I have Intel parallel studio/Composer installed with a trial version of Visual Studio 2015 Pro.
Under the Help tag I see the following installed:

Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2017 Composer Edition for C++ Windows* Integration for Microsoft* Visual Studio* 2015, Version 17.0.67.14, Copyright © 2002-2016 Intel Corporation.
Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2017 Composer Edition for Fortran Windows* Integration for Microsoft Visual Studio* 2015, Version 17.0.0036.14, Copyright © 2002-2016 Intel Corporation.

I want to replace the VS2015 with the latest Community edition which is free, and reinstall my licenced Hobbyist version of the Intel Parallel studio/composer so that I see the same things installed.
What are the steps I have to take in what order?

Do I have to re-install .NET?

Thanks.

Uninstall Visual Studio 2015

  1. Uninstall Visual Studio 2015
  2. Install VS2015 (I assume you meant this and not 2016) Community Edition, being sure to customize the install and check the box for C++.
  3. Rerun the Parallel Studio XE install and select Repair.

That should be all you need.

Thanks, Steve. It took a

Thanks, Steve. It took a while, but it worked like a charm.

I have since downloaded Update 1 and installed that, which went OK I think,
except on final exit from the installation setup for that, I got a message box saying it could not find

startup_comp_wf.htm
(see attached screen shot)

The directory exists, the other attachment shows its contents.

In Visual studio, the Help tab shows the following installed:

Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2017 Update 1 Composer Edition for Fortran Windows* Integration for Microsoft Visual Studio* 2015, Version 17.0.0040.14, Copyright © 2002-2016 Intel Corporation.

Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2017 Composer Edition for C++ Windows* Integration for Microsoft* Visual Studio* 2015, Version 17.0.67.14, Copyright © 2002-2016 Intel Corporation

I have seen that behavior

I have seen that behavior myself - this is a "getting started" page that you really don't need to see if you're familiar with the product. I had reported it against the 2016 product, the install developers said it was fixed for 2017, but I'm not too astonished by its return.

If it bothers you, uninstall Parallel Studio XE 2017 (both update 1 and initial release) and then reinstall. We'll see if this ends up being a common problem again.
