UPDATE: I SOLVED THE PROBLEM

I'm hoping someone could please help me. I am trying to run a basic programme as a test to ensure the compiler is working correctly, but it isn't working. The file is built successfully (refer to attached images), however no .obj file is created and hence I am getting the error "unable to start program" when I try to debug.

If you could inform me of how to fix this I would be very grateful.

Cheers

Can you create a zip of the entire folder of your 'practice' example and attach it here?  Readers can take a look and suggest changes you can try.

And since you solved the problem, please explain what went wrong and how you solved it. It might help someone else in the future.

I'm going to guess that it's the issue described in https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/problem-fortran-source-files-not-compiled-when-building-in-visual-studio
