Something wrong with activation module. Please go to ...

I am trying to install the FORTRAN and c compilers on my computer. First, I was informed that g++ was missing. I installed it and then tried to install the libraries it required including the ever illusive libstdc++.so.5. Now, when I start the installation process, it will not even initialize.
