I've just updated my compiler from update 8 to 9 and I'm getting lots of messages during compilation of the form "Error: The operation could not be completed". It does seems to affect the compilation process so I'm ignoring them. What is causing this message to appear, could it be VS2008 issue? It used to occur occasionally in previous version but now it happens all the time. I suspect it is related to the dependency checker.

Ii it possible to make the compilation stop once it hits a proper error in VS2008?

You would have to look at the build log to see what it was doing at the time. FWIW, 11.1 Update 9 has no changes except for the Itanium compiler.
