Visual FORTRAN Compiler 9.1 update installation

I installed Visual FORTRAN version 9.1 from the box and installation was successful. After I registered the product I got instructions to download update version 9.1 (039). (I'm not sure if I really had to do this because I may have been able to go directly to version 10.1 but I wanted the 9.1 version also) I failed to uninstall the Visual Fortran Compiler Integration with Visual Studio because I misunderstood the installation instructions which said to uninstall this component only forversion 8.x or 9.0. So when I began the installation for 9.1 (039), components for the compiler, debugger, and extended memory were installed successfully. But the installation for the integration with Visual Studio was halted with a message that the previous version of it was not uninstalled. Instructions were to exit the installation, uninstall the old integration component and the restart the setup. However, when I went to uninstall the Visual Fortran Compiler Integration with Visual Studio component it was not in the Add/Remove list. I rebooted the machine and rechecked the Add/Remove list and still the Visual Fortran Compiler Integration with Visual Studio was not there. I again tried to rerun the installation for version 9.1(039) but it was again halted at the integration component. What do I have to do to complete the installation for 9.1(039), i.e., get the Visual Fortran Compiler Integration with Visual Studio installed? (It may already be installed but I don't see it in the Add/Remove list.)

Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, then run it. You will probably find an entry for the Visual Studio Integration there. If so, use that utility to remove it. Then reinstall 9.1.039.

If you want to also have 10.1, I suggest that you skip the reinstall of 9.1 and just install 10.1. You'll then have access to both compilers.

Steve,

Thanks. If I understand correctly, that means that when 10.1 is unstalled there is no need unistall the previous versions integration component. Does that mean that the install of 10.1 just replaces the older versions integration component? If Help > About in VS shows the VS integration component that must meanyou can have multiple compiler versions but only one integration component.

It used to be that you had to uninstall a previous integration before installing a new one or you'd get an error. In version 10, we fixed that, so installing a new one automatically replaced the older one.

You can have only one integration installed, but in VS2005/2008, you can select among multiple compiler versions to use in Tools > Options > Intel Fortran, so there's no reason to want to keep an older integration installed.

All right. I plan to install 10.1.However, when I installed the windows installer cleanup utility there was no entry in the list for the 9.1 integration component so I could not remove it with the utility and it still does not appear in the add/remove list. Do you suppose that installing 10.1 will remove whatever is hanging around in the system because I still can't install the 9.1(039) update integration component? I brought up visual studio 2005 and did a Help>About about to see what was installed and got a strange error the first time I did it.

You can try it, but the registry may have become corrupted. If installing 10.1 does not work for you, please contact Intel Support and ask for assistance. They can give you manual steps to remove the 9.1 integration.
