Why are downloads so difficult and slow?

I have been trying for several weeks to download the 2020 version of the compiler.

Every download has eventually failed.

The downloads are unreliable and incredibly slow -- currently predicting > 23 hours to complete.

What's wrong with the registration centre downloads?

Possible solution to the download problems:

Downloading the Composer edition and tools separately appears to work.

Downloading the Profession edition with included tools always fails -- don't know whether this is due to a flaw in the scripting for the combined installer, or a corrupted copy of the installer on  the server - perhaps someone else can confirm this?
