argh - Setup Woes - Integration with Visual Studio 2005

Argh,

Obviously its me but I cant see the woods for the trees.

The setup fails when installing "integrations for Visual Studio" with an error message that "You must install the Intel FORTRAN copiler for 32 bit apps v 9 or higher"

IT JOLLY WELL IS INSTALLED.

Anyone any ideas how to get past this?

I'm begining to think I should have stuck with Compaq.

Thanks

Rgds

I believe someone posted something on this issue in this forum. Probably Steve Lionel. Try issuing a Google Search on this forum using the following search text.

installation problem Visual Studio site:softwareforums.intel.com

I will attempt to sumarize.

The root of the problem seems to be with the non-intuitive nature of the Installation Screen where it gives you a choice to install (not looking at install screen now)

1) IVF 32-bit
2) IVF Itanium
3) Intel Debugger
4) Integration to Visual Studio

If you mistakenly choose 4 first then I think you encounter the problem. If you attempt to correctby installing 1) then trying 4) again 1) succeeds and 4) fails again.

The correct proceedure is to Un-install all the IVF components. It wouldn't hurt to reboot. Then re-install using choice 1) first. Then Integration second.

Check out the Google search. I and sure you will find your answer in one of the 230 hits.

Good luck.

Jim's response was appropriate for 9.0, but not 9.1, where you don't get to pick the order. There, you can select which components to install, but it picks the order.

Which version of Intel Fortran do you have? Is the 32-bit compiler installed? Try uninstalling the compiler from Add or Remove Programs and then reinstall the whole package.

Sorry my boo boo - I should have posted version.

Yes it isv9.1.

Yes the 32 bit compiler is installed.

Visual Studio 2005 version 8.0.50727.42

I have tried unistalling the compiler and reinstalling and so far a box of choclates and some sweet talk - but all to no avail (the axe is just around the corner out of view)

Going through the process one more time as I write this. But a little more detail about the installation....

This PC is a shared PC with multiple log ons - In the original installation I choose to make the compiler available to justme. This time I have made it available to everyone.

And guess what - yup now it works.

Sorry - should have known better

Thanks for making me go through it one more time

Glad to hear it. I know that in current 9.1 installers, it warns you about this on the page where it asks about installing for all users.

Warning?

OK I obviously didnt read the correct piece of documentation. What I saw was telling me I only needed admin rights. And the only bit about Visual Studio was I needed to install it first.

I honestly thought the setup script could guide me better

Installing the Compiler and Tools

If you encounter difficulty with the initial installation or registration process, please visit https://registrationcenter.intel.com/support to request help from Intel.

Pre-Installation Instructions

To install the Intel Visual Fortran Compiler, you need to use an account that is a member of the Administrators privilege group . Any normal account with Users, Debugger Users or higher user privilege can use the Intel Visual Fortran Compiler.

Note: the default installation master directory referred to as in this document, is C:Program FilesIntel The Fortran 9.1 compiler is installed into the CompilerFortran9.1 subfolder.

If you will be using the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment or the Microsoft Platform SDK (see System Requirements), you must install those before installing the compiler.

My recollection is that on the installer screen that allows you to choose whether to install for yourself or "all users", there is a warning. This was added some time after the initial 9.1 release.

Thanks for pointing out the omission in the installation guide - I'll fix that.

Ah, really eh maybe - dont want to go back there now that it works - but it would be the best place for it.
