Hi,
I am a phd student working intensively with fortran language. I have a Mac, so several months ago I purchased a fortran compiler for my Mac which is quite cheap (49 dollars excluding the tax). I recently also purchased a new personal computer that run Linux on it. I have a question: can I simple install fortran compiler using my previous license for Mac? I would be happy to pay for the price difference... the price is quite different (linux is 129 dollars, almost 2.5 times that for a Mac, why is that?), and it is kind of silly to buy two licenses for one user just because the platform is different. I was wondering whether you guys have any suggestions on this?
thanks a lot! Lei

Our licenses are specific to the operating system, so no, you can't use the Mac license for Linux. Sorry. You're probably referring to our Student Development Suite, which includes pretty much all of our development tools. Several of them aren't supported on Mac so that's why it costs less there.

Dear Steven, thanks a lot for your prompt response! I appreciate the fully functional student development suite that intel offers! Very cool! honestly, If one get some discount when buying two license for different platform, that will be even better! Because basically it is for just one user. For reference, if I remember correctly, matlab can be installed on different platform under single license.

I understand that some other vendors allow multi-platform licenses. We don't. Unlike some vendors, we don't charge you separately for different architectures (IA-32, Intel 64, MIC). I will pass your concerns on to our business people, but the question has come up before.
